Key responsibilities
Wound assessment and treatment:
Evaluate wounds to determine their type, stage, and size, and then create and implement individualized treatment plans.
Wound care procedures:
Perform wound care duties such as cleaning, debriding (removing dead tissue), and applying dressings, while ensuring sterile techniques are used.
Monitoring and documentation:
Monitor patient progress and document all care provided. This includes documenting for reimbursement purposes, such as Medicare.
Education:
Educate residents, their families, and other staff on wound care, infection prevention, and injury prevention techniques, particularly focusing on preventing pressure ulcers.
Collaboration:
Work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including physicians, to coordinate care and make necessary adjustments to treatment plans.
Order writing:
Write nursing orders that support wound healing and help prevent skin breakdown.
Infection control:
Monitor for signs of infection and implement protocols to prevent it.
Staying current:
Keep up-to-date with the latest wound care research, techniques, and products.
Education Requirements
High School Diploma
