HJF is seeking a Scientist II to develop and supervise research projects. Investigates the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions, products and problems. Develops new technologies and protocols.

This position will be in support of USU / WRNMMC Department of Surgery's Limb Optimization and Osseointegration Program (LOOP)

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.

Responsibilities

  • Lead independent and collaborative research initiatives within the Limb Optimization and Osseointegration Program (LOOP), designing and executing multidisciplinary studies spanning clinical outcomes, proteomics, registry analytics, and machine learning to advance limb optimization, bone health, and osseointegration science.
  • Develop and secure extramural funding by independently identifying opportunities and preparing competitive grant applications (e.g., DoW, NIH, foundation awards), supporting the long-term sustainability and scientific growth of the program.
  • Drive high-impact scientific dissemination by leading the preparation and submission of peer-reviewed manuscripts, conference abstracts, and technical reports while translating complex datasets into publishable findings that advance the field of extremity trauma, bone health, and osseointegration.
  • Provide scientific leadership and mentorship across the research team by guiding experimental design, overseeing data analysis and registry infrastructure, and mentoring research staff and trainees to ensure rigorous study execution and reproducible scientific output.
  • Lead advanced data analysis and interpretation across clinical registries, proteomic datasets, and multi-site research studies, applying statistical and computational methods to generate actionable insights that inform clinical practice, guide study design, and support high-impact scientific publications.
  • Advance methodological innovation in osseointegration research by developing and validating novel clinical metrics, analytical frameworks, and computational models that improve the measurement of skeletal adaptation, infection risk, implant performance, and functional outcomes in this emerging field.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Assigned Lead: May recommend the following: employee hiring, disciplinary action, and starting salaries; provide input on employee performance evaluations.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Doctoral Degree required.
  • Minimum of 5-8 years experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Proven ability to produce high-impact scientific outputs, including leading authorship of peer-reviewed manuscripts, abstracts, and national/international conference presentations, with a demonstrated capacity for sustained publication and dissemination.
  • Advanced knowledge of multidisciplinary biomedical research, including clinical outcomes research, musculoskeletal biology, and translational science, with the ability to integrate proteomics, registry data, and computational approaches.
  • Demonstrated expertise in statistical and computational analysis, including experience working with large-scale clinical and/or omics datasets, applying advanced methods (e.g., regression modeling, machine learning, longitudinal analysis) to generate publishable insights.
  • Proven ability to independently develop and secure research funding, including identification of funding opportunities and preparation of competitive grant applications (e.g., DoW, NIH, foundation mechanisms).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1 Public Trust background check.

Physical Capabilities

  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in an office setting.
  • 3 days a week onsite requirement.

Compensation

  • The annual salary range for this position is $93,100 - $128,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.

Salary : $93,100 - $128,000
