HJF is seeking a Clinical Research Assistant II to support clinical research evaluating novel interventions to improve mental health and prevent suicide in active-duty service members. The Clinical Research Assistant II will contribute to research activities including patient recruitment, screening, data collection, protocol adherence, and regulatory compliance for a clinical trial that combines brain stimulation, pharmacotherapy, and behavioral interventions. The Clinical Research Assistant II will also serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team and examine topics pertaining to military mental health, suicide prevention, and brain health.

This position will be in support of the Department of Psychiatry / Center for the Study of Traumatic Stress. The position is located at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in Portsmouth, VA.

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. Responsibilities

  • Supports the planning and implementation of clinical research, maintaining compliance with research protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Facilitates the recruitment, screening, and enrollment of study participants.
  • Communicates with study participants throughout study stages, including screening, recruitment, data collection, and follow-up.
  • Assists with, plans, and/or executes the administration of study treatments in compliance with treatment protocols.
  • Maintains detailed logs and documentation of participant communication and study progress tracking.
  • Performs qualitative and quantitative data collection, entry, quality control, and basic analysis as outlined by project protocols.
  • Performs administrative duties such as: assisting in maintaining study databases and files; scheduling study appointments; developing protocol manuals and data collection instruments.
  • Conducts scientific literature reviews; summarizes and references relevant articles.
  • Assists with the preparation of manuscripts, reports, grant proposals, and presentations including editing and formatting documents.
  • Assists in Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocol preparation and modification.
  • Conducts study administrative tasks (i.e., supply ordering) requiring collaboration with HJF, USUHS, and other government and contracting agencies.
  • Participates in regular meetings with other study personnel, collaborators, and stakeholders.
  • Serves as a member of a multidisciplinary team; provides research support for projects related to military mental health as needed.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This includes attendance of and participation in required training for the role.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 3- 5 years experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Prior experience with human subjects research preferred.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; able to communicate effectively and work with individuals of all levels.
  • Ability to understand and utilize scientific/medical terminology and research theory in both oral and written communications.
  • Ability to use measurable and verifiable information for making decisions or judgments.
  • May require U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a T3 Secret Clearance.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in a clinic setting.

Compensation

  • The hourly pay range for this position is $22.16 -$32.93. Actual hourly pay will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
