Position Summary
The Lead Wellsite Supervisor is the operator’s on‑site representative responsible for planning, supervising, and executing drilling, completion, workover, and intervention operations at Prudhoe Bay. This role ensures operations are conducted safely, efficiently, environmentally compliant, and in accordance with approved programs, Alaska regulations, and operator standards, while performing under extreme Arctic conditions.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Oversight
- Represent the operator at the wellsite and maintain full responsibility for 24‑hour operations
- Supervise drilling, completion, workover, or intervention activities per the approved well program
- Coordinate daily activities with drilling contractors, service companies, logistics, and operations teams
- Ensure operational execution aligns with AFE objectives, cost control targets, and timelines
- Monitor well performance, hole conditions, pressures, and equipment integrity
Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE)
- Enforce zero‑incident safety culture and stop‑work authority when unsafe conditions exist
- Ensure compliance with:
- Operator HSE policies
- Alaska North Slope (ANS) environmental requirements
- BSEE, Alaska DEC, and applicable federal/state regulations
- Lead safety meetings, toolbox talks, and JSAs
- Monitor environmental controls including spill prevention, waste management, and wildlife awareness
Contractor & Service Company Management
- Direct and supervise rig crews and service providers
- Verify services are performed per contract and technical specifications
- Evaluate contractor performance and recommend improvements
- Ensure accurate reporting of services, materials, and operational time
Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare and submit daily drilling/workover reports (DDR/DWR)
- Track costs, NPT, lessons learned, and operational KPIs
- Ensure accurate documentation for regulatory and internal audits
- Communicate daily with drilling engineers, operations management, and logistics teams
Arctic & Prudhoe Bay‑Specific Responsibilities
- Operate safely in extreme cold, limited daylight, and remote logistics conditions
- Ensure winterization of equipment and cold‑weather operating procedures
- Coordinate ice road usage, load restrictions, and North Slope logistics
- Ensure compliance with tundra travel and environmental protection rules
Required Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or GED required
- Technical degree or engineering background preferred
Experience
- 8 years of oil and gas field experience
- 5 years as a Wellsite Supervisor / Company Man, preferably on the Alaska North Slope
- Proven experience in:
- Drilling and/or workover operations
- Arctic or extreme weather operations
- High‑pressure reservoirs and complex well architectures
Certifications (Required or Strongly Preferred)
- Well Control Certification (IWCF or IADC – Supervisor level)
- H2S Alive or equivalent
- First Aid / CPR
- Arctic or Cold Weather Operations training (preferred)
