In this role, you will perform various sales & use, local, and gross receipts tax tasks to assist with maintaining the company’s indirect tax compliance obligations.
Job Responsibilities:
- Partners with the team with preparing and filing indirect tax returns (sales and use tax, VAT/GST where applicable) on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
- Partners with the team with reviewing and reconciling indirect tax liabilities, including tax accruals and general ledger accounts in multiple jurisdictions.
- Review construction project transactions to ensure proper tax treatment of materials, equipment, subcontractors, and labor.
- Gathering and reviewing job-cost ledger, contract schedule, A/P, A/R, and other project related reports to review accurate sales and use tax treatment.
- Collaborate with the team for process improvements and implementation of tax process and procedure documentation.
- Support indirect tax audits by gathering documentation, performing analysis, and supporting with audit resolution.
- Maintain and review exemption certificates, resale certificates, and contractor-specific tax documentation.
- Partners with team on special projects, such as registering new entities for sales tax, gathering tax matrices or tax research, or supporting tax training sessions, as needed.
- Travel as required.
- Other duties which may be assigned as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, finance, or similar fields. 1-3 years of experience in tax, accounting or related role is preferred.
- Basic knowledge of sales and use tax principles.
- Experience or coursework involving multi-state taxation and jurisdictional reporting preferred.
- Ability to analyze invoices, contracts, and job cost data to determine proper tax treatment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including basic formulas and data reconciliation.
- Experience with accounting or ERP systems; exposure to job cost or construction accounting, familiarity with indirect tax compliance software (e.g., Vertex) systems is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with ability to meet recurring filing deadlines.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally.
- Willingness to learn evolving indirect tax regulations and construction-specific reporting requirements.
