Operations Manager (Landscape & Lawn Care) Location: Rapid City, SD (Serving the Black Hills Region) Position Type: Full-Time, Hourly with Overtime Expected Annual Earnings: $75,000 – $100,000 (Base Hourly Built-in Overtime Performance Bonuses) About Us We are a premium, high-growth landscaping and lawn care franchise in the Black Hills region dedicated to "resetting the bar" for professionalism and customer experience in the green industry. We don’t just mow lawns and build landscapes; we build systems, leaders, and lasting relationships. We are looking for a high-caliber, hands-on Operations Manager who thrives on operational excellence, high standards, and elite execution. If you want a job where you can fly under the radar with loose standards, this is not the place for you. But if you want to belong to an elite team, be pushed out of your comfort zone, and take true ownership of a rolling operation, we want to talk to you. The True Purpose of this Role As our Operations Manager, your job is to lead, train, and build the systems that allow our field crews to win. You are the heartbeat of our daily operations, bridging the gap between high-value field logistics and tight administrative execution. The Opportunity: We are growing fast. This is a hands-on Operations Manager role today, but it is intentionally designed to transition into a salaried General Manager position with total divisional oversight as we continue to scale. This is a dynamic, high-impact role for a leader who isn't afraid to lead from the front. You will own three critical pillars that define our brand: Elite Communication: You bridge the gap between our clients, our office staff, and our field teams with absolute clarity and zero-downtime handoffs. Unyielding Quality Control: You hold a zero-tolerance visual standard. If an edge, stripe, or plant bed issue is noticeable from a moving vehicle, it's your baseline to fix. High-Performance Morale: You don't just boss people around; you build them up. You use strict accountability as a tool for professional growth, pushing our Foremen and crews out of their comfort zones so they can see themselves improve, gain confidence, and win. The 50/50 Split: Field & Office Leadership This is not a traditional desk job, nor is it a raw labor role. Your time will be dynamically split to ensure both the field and the paperwork are executing flawlessly: 50% Field Management & Client Relations Project Management & Logistics: Coordinate weekly scheduling, oversee material staging, track active jobs, and ensure field crews depart the yard efficiently and on time. Client Communications & Walk-Throughs: Meet with premium residential and commercial clients on-site to review completed work, secure smooth job closeouts, and guarantee an elite customer experience. Quality Control & Support: Conduct active visual property audits to enforce company standards. Maintain the humility and drive to operate heavy machinery or directly fill in on a crew whenever the team needs an extra hand to hit a strict deadline. 50% Office Administration & Sales Job Costing & Metrics: Audit completed contracts, analyzing actual hours and materials used against budgeted targets to protect company profit margins. Streamlined Sales & Estimating: Meet with inbound leads to provide fast, accurate property estimates for low-end, straightforward sales (such as standard maintenance packages, cleanups, or basic enhancements). Operations Admin: Keep the backend organized by tracking asset maintenance charts, updating client files, and managing fleet readiness logs. Seasonal Flow & Work Hours Our industry follows the rhythm of the seasons, and your schedule will adjust to match the demand. Because this is an hourly position with built-in overtime, your earning potential is maximized during our busiest months: Peak Season (Spring – Fall): Expect 50 to 60 hours per week. This is prime production time. Days start early to ensure the yard launch executes perfectly, running Monday through Friday with occasional weekend flexibility depending on weather delays. Low Season (Winter): Expect 40 to 50 hours per week. As field operations slow down, your focus will pivot to office administration, job costing, future planning, winter equipment maintenance, and snow removal logistics. Position Requirements Landscape & Construction Knowledge: Solid working knowledge of green industry standards, installation techniques, and property maintenance practices. Heavy Machinery Expertise: Proven experience safely operating and maintaining commercial field equipment and heavy machinery (skid steers, commercial mowers, etc.). Proven Leadership Experience: Minimum 2–3 years of experience directly managing field operations, boots-on-the-ground crews, or complex logistics. Elite Communication Skills: Clear, direct verbal skills for instructing crews, combined with a highly professional, service-oriented presentation when dealing with clients. Sales & Estimating Aptitude: Confident demeanor when discussing pricing on-site, reading properties, and presenting basic service bids to residential or commercial accounts. The "Growth" Mindset: A strong belief that holding people accountable is an act of professional care; comfortable coaching, correcting, and pushing a team out of their comfort zone to achieve growth. Willingness to Execute: The physical ability, stamina, and drive to perform field labor alongside crews and lead by example when a project demands extra manpower. Tech Savvy: Comfortable utilizing mobile apps, routing software, and digital tools for daily dispatching, timesheet tracking, and asset logs. Professional Organization: Strong administrative skills with the ability to manage job costing data, maintain vehicle logs, and keep the office paperwork tight. Clean Driving Record: Valid driver's license and the ability to safely operate company fleet vehicles and haul trailers. Strong Problem-Solving Abilities: Highly adaptable in the face of weather changes, equipment breakdowns, or shifting scheduling demands. What We Offer Hourly Pay Strong Overtime Potential: Earn an expected $75,000 to $100,000 annually through a stable hourly rate combined with consistent, built-in overtime. Performance Bonuses: Earn tier-based performance bonuses tied directly to divisional profit margins, labor efficiency targets, and quality metrics. Clear Career Progression: A defined roadmap to transition into a high-level, salaried General Manager role with full divisional oversight as the company expands. A professional, respectful, and high-standard work environment where your leadership directly impacts the growth of the company and its people. To Apply If you are a driven leader who wants to own their role, build elite teams, and push the boundaries of professional excellence in the Black Hills region, submit your resume and a brief explanation of why you are the right fit to lead our operations.
