Primary Responsibilities: (guest interaction, ordering responsibilities, clean up
duties, clerical responsibilities, etc.)
· To create and the implement the Greenbrier
Vision Statement through immaculately groomed lawns, constantly blooming flora,
and the preservation of our heritage trees
· To realize the
Four Mission statements through landscape and horticulture
· Employees – through mentoring, education and prioritizing of
work
· Guests/Members – by presenting immaculately groomed lawns at all
times (growing season) with attention to detail on path and flower bed edges
while providing the design and implementation of constantly blooming flora
· Owners – by driving efficiency of the Grounds team members
through long-term and short term planning and hiring
· Community – by participating in local Garden Clubs and other
forums that involve our local citizens
· Coordinating
special work / request and projects with other departmental managers
· Tracking payroll
and time charged out for maintenance work
· Responding to
radio / telephone calls and e-mails
· Keeping a stock
of warehouse items such as gloves, masks, safety glasses and cleaning supplies
· Assist in the
design of landscape and flower beds including plant selection for the shrubs,
trees, flowers, bulbs, etc. along with coordinating the delivery, layout and
planting of the spring, summer and fall flowers throughout the grounds and golf
courses.
· Supervise grounds
maintenance staff by prioritizing work and making appropriate assignment to
accomplish the work in a timely and efficient process.
· Maintaining the
equipment through necessary daily task and preventive maintenance, assisting
when necessary with the repair by means parts acquisition or hand on help.
· Oversee the
interior plant program, including the purchase of plants required, stocking and
maintaining them in the greenhouses, changing out as necessary and providing
plants for events when requested
· Must have a WV
Commercial Applicators License or obtain one within 45 day of employment in
order to oversee all application related to landscape, lawn and pest management
including the necessary scheduling and training of the registered technicians
in order for staff to maintain required licensing.
· Assist in
selection and acquisition of Christmas related plants and trees, including
poinsettias and the large trees used during the holiday seasons
· Assist in
acquiring bids on all grounds related projects, general needs, equipment
purchases and or repairs, materials, labor and any needs that may arise in the
grounds department or from other departments within the Hotel.
· Must be
knowledgeable in diseases recognition of all types in found in trees, shrubs,
lawns and flowers
Secondary Responsibilities:
· Posting current
information on the bulletin board and sharing updated information in daily line
up meetings
· Posting and or
communication of work schedules
· Participates in
departmental and hotel meetings
· Conducts safety
audits and safety awareness training
· Coordinates and
schedule staff for hotel required training
· Ordering tools /
materials as needed with approval from Director of Grounds
· Assist in the
coordinated effort of snow removal from sidewalks, roadway and parking lots
throughout the winter months
· Interviewing and
selecting new employees for temporary, full time and specialized positions in
the grounds department
Normal Working Hours: (Shift, days)
· Salary Position
that requires a commitment to work hours as needed based on hotel and property
needs that will meet the highest level of expectations
· Weekend and extra
hours as required
· On call
situations may arise

Past Work Experience
Requirements: (Type of work, number of years required, equivalent
experience, etc.)
· 3 years of
experience in horticulture and landscaping maintenance
· 3 years of
experience in turf grass management or maintenance program
· 2 seasons / years
of supervisory / leadership experience in directing and managing a crew of 10
or more staff members in the fields of landscaping and turf grass maintenance
Educational Requirements: (Degree/Certification,
highest required/preferred, field of study)
· High School
Diploma or G.E.D.
· Bachelor’s degree in horticulture or acceptable certification in landscape
and or turf grass management with 3 years of experience and equivalent
knowledge base training related to landscape and lawn maintenance.
· Must have a WV Commercial Applicator License in the required fields
related to managing the storage, handling and application of insecticides,
fungicides and herbicides.
· Must have a current WV drivers license, class “D” is preferred but not
required
Communication Skills

Technical Requirements:

proper planting procedures for trees, shrubs and flowers

required maintenance of trees, shrubs, flowers and lawns
· Understand proper
