What are the responsibilities and job description for the Commercial Greenhouse Worker - Household Plants position at The Green Escape?
The greenhouse worker will be trained in the following activities and will work under the guidance of the grower and assistant grower.
- Receive, plant, transplant, maintain and harvest foliage plants as directed across two greenhouses.
- Monitor and maintain plant health to include cleaning, organizing, and pruning.
- Identify any potential pests, diseases, or nutrient deficiencies for management by lead grower.
- Operate and maintain greenhouse equipment such as irrigation systems and climate controls as required.
- Clean and organize greenhouse areas to ensure a sanitary and efficient workspace.
- Assist as requested with the picking process, inventory tracking and record keeping for plants and supplies.
- Ongoing communication with leadership to comply with regulatory requirements.
- Assist with other activities as requested to manage plants, inventory, and support the sales and business processes.
A typical day for a greenhouse production worker might include:
- Watering - Operate irrigation systems to deliver the correct amount of water to each plant, adjusting based on plant type, growth stage, and weather conditions.
- Fertilizing - Apply nutrient solutions or fertilizers according to established feeding programs, checking pH and EC levels to maintain plant health.
- Monitoring Plant Health - Inspect plants for signs of pests, diseases, or nutrient deficiencies, and take corrective action such as applying treatments or adjusting environmental controls
- Inventory Management: Organize, rearrange, move new and existing plants into the appropriate locations.
- Environmental Control - Adjust temperature, humidity, and light settings to meet the specific needs of different plant species.
- Maintenance - Prune or thin plants to promote healthy growth, remove dead or diseased foliage. Keep greenhouse equipment clean and in good working order.
- Record Keeping - As appropriate, log daily activities such as watering schedules, fertilization, pest/disease observations, and any corrective measures taken.
This task is part of the core greenhouse production duties, ensuring that plants are managed, maintained, and grow in ideal conditions and remain healthy throughout their production cycle.
