What are the responsibilities and job description for the Labor Hand position at The Gateway Companies?
This position is responsible for performing a wide range of physical duties on the Pipeline jobsite. Labor Hand/Welder Helper’s report directly to the Foreman but will work with all other crew members on many different scopes of the job. Full ability to travel is required to get to the jobsite.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Direct pipe for welders and operators
- Pick up skids and other materials bracing the pipe
- Spot check for operators so they know what is around their machines
- Help grease heavy equipment to keep them running smoothly
- Build wire fences to block off dangerous work areas
- Assist Welders in all facets of Pipe Welding
- Handle tools while Welder is working
- Hold wind and spark blocker while welds are being made
- Assist welders with grinding of welds and moving materials
- General Labor duties as needed around the jobsite
- Other duties as assigned by supervisors
Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
- Capable of maintaining a safe work environment at all times
- Must be a good listener and be able to follow detailed instructions
- Be willing to travel to the jobsite
- Ability to work outdoors in any weather conditions on a regular basis including extreme cold and heat
- Ability to lift up to 100 lbs
- Ability to stand, stoop, crouch, kneel, and perform other related physical activities for long periods of time
- Ability to walk on an uneven surface
- Must be able to pass DOT required drug test
Experience:
- Previous pipeline construction experience preferred but not required
