UL Learning Support Coordinator and Academic Coach, grades 9-12

The UL (Upper Learning) Learning Support Coordinator and Academic Coach oversees the learning support provided in UL and is an active member of the UL Student Support Team. This person also provides executive functioning support and academic coaching to students in grades 9th- 12th grade. Close collaboration with classroom teachers is required.

Principal Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Actively participates in UL student support meetings
  • Participates in psychoeducational review meetings led by the Director of Learning Support, as appropriate
  • Engages in an ongoing review of EF support provided and develops innovative ways to deliver programming to students in response to overall and individual needs
  • Acts as a resource to teachers seeking to better understand learning challenges and best practices to support student learning in the classroom and on assessments
  • Advises families about requesting standardized testing accommodations. Submits forms and oversees the process.
  • Manages the distribution, completion, review, and submission of teacher report forms as part of psychoeducational evaluations
  • Obtains and stores Release of Information forms, as needed
  • Oversees the process for separate testing accommodations
  • Represents Learning Support in the development and implementation of Freshman Launch programming
  • Curates and maintains a resource referral list for families
  • Creates, oversees, and delivers parent education

Student Support

  • Provides direct support and instruction to students in the development of EF skills such as study skills, test-taking strategies, planning, time management, organization, and advocacy
  • Partners with students to establish individualized EF goals
  • Pushes into classrooms, as needed, to support academic performance. Lessons may include how to read a textbook, utilizing study guides, and backward planning for projects, among other topics.
  • Participates in UL Admin parent meetings, as needed

Collaboration and Communication

  • Collaborates closely with teachers; may advise on ways to incorporate best practices that support EF and learning into their classes, Canvas pages, and/or assessments; may also advise on communicating with students/parents
  • Communicates with students/families via Family Updates
  • Partners with the Athletics and the Arts Departments to support students with busy extracurricular commitments
  • Participates in UL Excursion offerings

Student Monitoring and Assessment

  • Monitors student progress via grades, Family Updates, and teacher contact, and provides additional support to students as needed
  • Maintains notes and data on student sessions and shares with the Director of Learning Support
  • Writes end-of-the-semester summaries for students with whom s/he works regularly
  • Helps students who have experienced long-term absences create a plan for work completion

Programming

  • Creates and distributes EF resources to students
  • Presents to faculty and/or parents on topics related to EF and Student Support

Other

  • Engages in own professional development
  • Embodies and advocates for the mission and vision of the school
  • Other duties as assigned

Specialized Skills And Knowledge

  • Knowledge of executive functioning and the ability to support the development of these skills in students
  • Understanding of Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) and how that interacts with academic and EF functioning
  • Familiarity with a variety of learning differences and associated accommodations
  • Familiarity with assistive technology
  • Computer literate
