Position: Program Counselor – Dorm Days Summer Camp
Location: Virginia Wesleyan University (Residential), with training at TFFC Headquarters in Norfolk, VA
Type: Seasonal / Residential
Pay: $18/hour
About the Role
We are seeking compassionate, energetic, and dependable individuals to join our Dorm Days Summer Camp, a two-week residential college immersion program for foster youth.
As a Program Counselor, you will:
- Serve as a mentor, role model, and accountability partner for youth in foster care.
- Ensure camper safety, supervision, and engagement throughout residential life, daily activities, and off-site excursions.
- Facilitate a structured, trauma-informed environment where youth feel safe, respected, and empowered to grow socially, emotionally, and academically.
- Support positive group dynamics, conflict resolution, and relationship-building among campers.
Program Details
- Training: July 13–14 at TFFC Headquarters
- Camp Dates: July 19–31 at Virginia Wesleyan University
Shifts:
- Day: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
- Afternoon/Evening: 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM
- Overnight: 10:00 PM – 6:30 AM
- Hours: 96 total program hours; on-call hours compensated at 1.5x pay
Qualifications
- Experience in youth development, case management, counseling, or social services
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and advocacy skills
- Organized with strong time management and attention to detail
- Knowledge of foster care systems preferred
- Proficiency in maintaining accurate records and preparing reports
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, or related field preferred
- Commitment to TFFC’s mission of supporting foster youth
Additional Requirements:
- Background check required
- Youth development experience preferred
