 SPED Coordinator 

This role plays a critical part in ensuring that special education services are thoughtfully designed, consistently implemented, and aligned with both regulatory requirements and TACT’s innovative, hands-on learning model. The Special Education Coordinator will serve as a key partner to school leadership, educators, and families—providing guidance, oversight, and support to help students thrive academically, socially, and vocationally. Through collaboration, data-informed decision-making, and a commitment to continuous improvement, this position helps translate vision into day-to-day practice across the school community.

 Location: Carbondale, Colorado 

Full Time Exempt 

Annualized Salary: $62,000-65,000 

Expected hours of work: 40 hours a week 

 

POSITION OVERVIEW  

 

  1. Provide vision for the domain area of expertise and advocate for its implementation and execution.  
  2. Develop innovative units of study for domain area of expertise that incorporate the academic standards and scope & sequence provided in the domain area portfolio with the core teachers.    
  3. Model appreciation of the domain among all TACT students, faculty, and programs. 
  4. Provide coaching for inclusion and integration of SPED in units of study, and positive behavior supports.  
  5. Contribute to any communications - newsletter, website, marketing materials, etc.  
  6. Attend and participate in workshops, camps, mobile classes and events as deemed necessary by Directors. 
  7. Uphold the mission, vison and values of TACT. 
  8. Support transition services. 
  9. Accommodate curriculum per student IEP. 
  10. Compile, communicate and provide updates, reports and data entry when requested by Directors. 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB  RESPONSIBILITIES: 

 

Classroom Teaching 

  1. Co-Teach/assist with assigned classes. 
  2. Exhibit mastery and enthusiasm for the assigned area of expertise and classes. 
  3. Coordinate with lead teachers and implement an appropriately focused and balanced curriculum for each student which adheres to the school's curriculum and standards.  
  4. Prepare and develop activities, materials and lessons to meet the learning objectives (skills and content) of the curriculum and standards. 
  5. Develop and maintain a well-managed classroom where students are engaged, consistently challenged, and supported.  Classroom policies should be consistent with school policies. 
  6. Help maintain a clean, neat and presentable classroom.  
  7. Engage families in their children's education and to communicate regularly and effectively with students and families. 
  8. Effectively utilize best practices in educational pedagogy and in TACT’s trades/ autism philosophy. 
  9. Demonstrate knowledge in the area of autism and classroom support. 
  10. Accommodate student IEP’s.  
  11. Upholds and exhibits the values of TACT 
  12. Attentive to detail 
  13. Independence of action- employee is able to set and achieve goals independently, adhere to policies and procedures with limited guidance, although the managing director will provide overall direction & guidelines. 

Curriculum and Assessment  

  1. Assist in the on-going development of the school’s curriculum and core performance standards and trade certifications.  
  2. Submit an annual Unit Pacing Plan and Individual Learning plans to your Director. 
  3. Use assessment data to refine curriculum and instructional practices to help meet the school's performance standards and expectations. 
  4. Inform colleagues and the Education or Executive Director of any academic, behavioral, or personal difficulties that arises with students or families.

  3. Devote the necessary time and energy required to master the craft of teaching.

OTHER JOB RESPONSIBILITIES 

 

  1. Participate actively in the school’s faculty meetings, team and department meetings.   
  2. Arrive at TACT by 8:30 a.m. for the morning planning and stay until 4:00 p.m. or until daily responsibilities are fulfilled. 
  3. Be punctual to all professional obligations.   
  4. Conduct oneself and dress in a professional manner.   
  5. Complete all other responsibilities deemed appropriate by your Directors to help the school achieve its goals. 
  6. Manage budgeted dollars allocated to classroom expenditures via a purchase card.  

 

 

 

RULES AND REGULATIONS:  Employee agrees to adhere to all of TACT’s rules and regulations which are presently in force or which may be established later.  Employees must read and follow the TACT Employee Handbook. 

 

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS  

  1. Undergraduate Degree and Graduate degree in Education or related to domain area of expertise.  
  2. 2 years of experience as lead classroom teacher or equivalent experience.  
  3. Experience with individualized and differentiated instruction. 
  4. Excellent organization, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills. 
  5. Experience with use of personal computer and educational technology.  
  6. Demonstrate a relentless drive to improve the minds and lives of students in and out of school. 
  7. Model the school’s Core Values with colleagues, students, parents, and larger community.   
  8. Reinforce the school’s Core values, guiding philosophy, rules, and school spirit consistently throughout the school environment and support and hold accountable colleagues in doing the same. 
  9. Grant permission for a criminal background check. 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

1.Environment: Work is performed primarily in a classroom environment with client and staff contact and frequent interruptions.

Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a classroom,  light industrial and office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate (up to 20 pounds) amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fire coordination including use of a computer keyboard; may be required to travel to other locations using various modes of private and commercial transportation; and to verbally communicate to exchange information. 

• Vision: Ability to see in the normal visual range with or without correction. 

• Hearing: Ability to hear in the normal audio range with or without correction. 

 

 

 

 

Salary : $62,000 - $65,000
