SUMMARY
The Quality Assurance (QA) Technician I will conduct analytical and attribute testing on food products to assure compliance to specifications, identify and resolve non-conformances, and reinforce compliance to Good Manufacturing Practices. They will support the Food Safety Plan by performing verification checks on preventive controls to achieve safe and wholesome products with consistently best quality.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Associate’s degree preferred
- 3 years of experience in foodservice and/or manufacturing environment strongly desired
QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English with peers, other departments, and management
- Moderate computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
- Good handwriting and documentation skills
- Basic understanding of food safety and quality procedures
- Ability to learn new tasks and testing
- Moderate mathematical skills
- Must be able to work additional hours or mandatory overtime with little or no notice due to unforeseen circumstances for production
- Must display a professional and courteous behavior at all times
- Must be a self-starter and independent
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure food production areas follow food safety and regulatory requirements
- Understand all production processes
- Understand and perform calibration and analytical testing, including but not limited to scales, balances, pH meter, thermometers, stopwatch, Bostwick, refractometer to ensure accurate measurement of the process
- Communicate non-compliances to supervisor and lead (production and quality)
- Understand and perform receiving procedures and pre-operational inspections
- Perform bakery manufacturing procedure observation
- Conduct verification checks with labels, metal detector, and finished product specifications
- Perform changeover checks and release equipment after allergen production
- Understand and perform tasks in the hold procedure. Demonstrate how to secure and hold items when required
- Support compliance to SQF and customer quality requirements
- Understands and reinforces compliance to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s)
- Conduct equipment and environmental swabs as required
- Performs other duties assigned as required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Be able to stand for at least an eight to twelve (8-12) hour period
- Be able to lift, carry, handle and grasp at least 35 lbs (constantly)
- Be able to push and pull a wheeled cart to move items weighing up to 100 lbs.
- Be able to walk up and down stairs/steps (occasionally)
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high and will include, but not be limited to, production machinery, computers, printers, telephones, and normal communication. Hearing protection will be required for all in plant activities
- Must be willing to work under various temperatures ranging from typical 45 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit
