What are the responsibilities and job description for the We Can't Help Ourselves - Musical Workshop Auditions | October 18-19, 2026 position at The Eno River Players?
DESCRIPTION
ABOUT THE SHOW
Always the confidant, never the crush, Larry finally gets his shot at love, and he‘ll lie to everybody—including himself—to keep it. We Can't Help Ourselves is a new musical about love, denial, and the distractions that keep us from facing the terrible truth we all share. It's never been worse to be young and single. And yet, somehow, we can't help ourselves.
We are seeking a diverse cast of performers for this production. People of all genders, races, ages, and sexual orientations are encouraged to audition.
SEEKING
Larry, male, late 20s. Tenor. Male lead. Neurotic. Sensitive. Gets serious or difficult at seemingly random times. Uses humor to deflect or demonstrate his own intelligence. Hopelessly romantic and romantically cowardly.
Alice, woman, late 20s. Soprano. Female lead. Highly intelligent, curious, and driven. Voracious reader. No sense of hierarchy between “literary fiction” and romance paperbacks. A law school student, with an interest in public policy. Believes in heaven.
Emily, woman, mid 20s. Alto. Larry’s sister. Caroline’s girlfriend. Prep school lesbian. Incredibly caring. Avoidant. Small tattoos. Cries at dogs. Amazing and elaborate cook. Loves Rainbow Kitten Surprise and 100 Years of Solitude.
Caroline, woman, mid 20s. Flex. Emily’s girlfriend. A sensible and strong person. Works in finance. Loves spreadsheets and having the right tool. Has never “done a bad thing.”
Julian, man, early 30s. Bass. Handsome epicurean. Product manager at a tech company. Active on Beli and Letterboxd. Raised lower middle class.
