Sirovich Center for Balanced Living is a community-oriented art center dedicated to providing a creative space for older New Yorkers of all skill levels to explore their artistic abilities. Our Art Studio is a relaxed and welcoming environment where artists of all backgrounds can come to paint, experiment, and connect with fellow art enthusiasts.
We are seeking a passionate part time Art Studio Facilitator to lead and support Open Paint sessions, a self-directed and social art-making experience. Opportunities to instruct classes may also be available.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Welcome and assist artists as they enter the studio, helping them feel comfortable, confident, and valued.
• Facilitate Open Paint sessions, offering informal guidance, conversation, and encouragement to participants working independently.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and well-supplied studio environment.
• Answer questions and provide artistic support, including offering feedback, tips, and demonstrations when appropriate.
• Foster a sense of community by encouraging collaboration, conversation, and mutual inspiration among artists.
• Monitor studio safety and cleanliness; ensure that all materials and equipment are properly maintained. Communicate inventory or repair needs to the Artistic Director.
• Assist with setup and cleanup of art supplies and materials before and after sessions.
• Support the Artistic Director and program staff in promoting upcoming classes, workshops, and art-related events within the center.
• Collect attendance and feedback from participants to enhance the Open Paint and studio experience.
• Uphold and model the center’s Community Guidelines and commitment to a positive, inclusive atmosphere.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Genuine passion for the arts and enthusiasm for supporting the creative process of others.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with artists of diverse backgrounds.
• Basic knowledge of various art mediums and techniques; painting experience preferred.
• Dependable, punctual, and professional, with a commitment to scheduled hours.
• Collaborative spirit and ability to work well as part of a team.
• Capacity to maintain a welcoming, respectful, and non-judgmental studio environment
