ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION AND THE OPPORTUNITY 

 

Education Trust—West (ETW) seeks a Senior Associate, Development to join our Development team. The Senior Associate will join a staff committed to fulfilling our mission of closing opportunity gaps that disproportionately affect students of color and students from low-income backgrounds.

The Senior Associate, Development manages a portfolio of EdTrust funding priorities primarily focused on institutional grant makers, including donor and funder cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and diversification efforts in coordination with the Deputy Director of Strategic Growth. The Senior Associate operates with a high level of autonomy to manage projects and collaborate with program staff to advance fundraising priorities. This position also requires the ability to understand EdTrust-West’s policy/advocacy priorities along with philanthropic and donor giving trends to identify opportunities for partnership.

This role, available immediately, is based in our Oakland, CA office and is eligible for telework up to 3 days per week under our current policy. Candidates unable to relocate to Oakland but who can work from a home office located in the state of California will also be considered. The Senior Associate, Development reports to the Deputy Director II, Strategic Growth.

 

ABOUT THE SENIOR ASSOCIATE, DEVELOPMENT ROLE 

 

Major responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: 

 

  • Manage a portfolio of funding priorities and execute the grant application and reporting processes including, but not limited to, proposal and report writing, budget development, quality assurance, and timely submission for assigned area.
  • Produce materials such as concept papers, proposals, reports, or case for support in conjunction with program staff and subject matter experts.
  • Coordinate with the Deputy Director on funder relationship management activities including phone calls, correspondence, mailings, and meetings with funders and donors and their representatives, engaging key Ed Trust team members as appropriate.
  • Monitor and grow prospects list to support assigned funding priorities and organization-wide diversification efforts.
  • Contribute to and leverage donor database (Salesforce) and grants management software (Sage Intacct) to effectively track and improve funder engagement.
  • Support the Deputy Director in promoting a culture of philanthropy through high-quality and engaging fundraising training(s) for staff.
  •  Keep abreast of Ed Trust’s policy positions and research, as well as best practices in fundraising and donor database management

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE 

 

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience: 

  • A Bachelor’sdegree
  • Some (e.g., at least 4 years) experience in nonprofit fundraising, including significant experience with grant writing and reporting
  • Prior work experience in an education-related organization; knowledge of education equity and/or policy a plus 
  • Significant experience with Salesforce or other similar CRM

 

COMPENSATION 

 

The new hire salary range for this position in our California office is $78,430 - $98,040, with offers rarely falling at the top of this range. Offers will be commensurate with skills, experience and internal equity.

The Education Trust prioritizes the health and well-being of its employees and, to that end, offers a highly competitive benefits package. Medical, dental and vision insurance are covered at 100% for the employee, with significant coverage also offered for dependents. We provide sick leave, vacation leave, and personal leave, and we follow the federal government for most holiday closures.
