Day School Director
Houston, TX
Our client, a large Methodist church in Houston, is seeking a Director of Day School to lead its early childhood program. This role provides overall leadership for daily operations, staff development, curriculum oversight, and family engagement. The Director will ensure the school operates in alignment with the church’s mission while maintaining compliance with licensing and accreditation standards.
In office Monday through Friday, minimum of 37.5 hours
The school is open 11 hours per day, but the director is not expected to be present for the full duration. The administrative team works together to ensure there are the appropriate number of administrators on campus to comply with licensing requirements, and they create a coordinated team schedule to cover those hours.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership & Administration:
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the Day School
- Lead strategic planning, program development, and school initiatives
- Manage budget and financial reporting
- Partner with church leadership to align school and ministry goals
Staff Management & Development:
- Hire, train, and manage teaching staff and support personnel
- Provide coaching, performance management, and professional development
- Foster a positive, collaborative, and mission-driven team environment
Curriculum & Program Oversight:
- Ensure implementation of developmentally appropriate early childhood curriculum
- Oversee classroom environments, safety procedures, and risk management
- Stay current on best practices in early childhood education
Family & Community Engagement:
- Build strong partnership among administration, parents, and teachers through communication and support
- Initiates community outreach opportunities
- Serve as a liaison between families, staff, and church leadership
Church Collaboration:
- Partner with internal church teams (HR, Finance, Facilities, Communications, Pastoral Staff)
- Participate in staff chapel and ministry programming
- Support broader children’s ministry initiatives and church events
REQUIREMENTS:
- Meets or exceeds the minimum qualifications for Director of Childcare Centers as required by the state of Texas
- Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field preferred; advanced degree or additional certifications preferred
- Minimum 5 years of experience in early childhood program administration or educational leadership preferred
- Alignment with the Christian values and mission of the organization
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Knowledge of child development and early education best practices
