The Affordable Housing & Subsidies Specialist is an accounting role that focuses on managing financial operations for affordable housing units with diverse funding sources. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, this specialist ensures compliance with regulatory requirements for all subsidy programs while processing, reconciling, and analyzing housing subsidies in New York City.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Manage subsidy billing and collection for affordable housing units with diverse funding sources and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements for all subsidy programs
- Process monthly tenant billing including HAP, DRIE/SCRIE, Section 8, and other NYC-specific subsidies
- Reconcile subsidy payments and resolve discrepancies with government agencies
- Prepare monthly financial reports detailing subsidy revenue streams and develop comprehensive analytics dashboards to track subsidy performance metrics
- Create data-driven reports to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for process improvement
- Timely completion of bank reconciliations
- Review and validate tenant income certifications as they relate to billing
- Ably communicate to property managers on proper subsidy documentation procedures
- Serve as a financial analyst for several properties including providing monthly reporting and participating in the annual budget process
- 8 years of Accounting experience, real estate industry preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex financial information to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
- Proficiency in financial software and tools, including Excel.
