We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Design Engineer to join our team. This role is responsible for designing and developing innovative products that meet customer requirements while supporting manufacturing and production teams. The ideal candidate will collaborate cross-functionally, contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, and help deliver high-quality solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret customer-provided 3D CAD models, 2D drawings, and PDF prints to extract critical information needed for quoting OEM parts
- Analyze designs to identify materials, dimension, tolerances, and manufacturing considerations
- Collaborate with internal teams to support accurate and timely quoting for customer requests
- Utilize SolidWorks and other tools to review, modify, or simplify designs as needed for manufacturability
- Apply basic knowledge of plastic part design and manufacturing processes to support cost-effective solutions
- Communicate effectively with team members to clarify requirements and resolve design-related questions
- Assist in evaluating feasibility and potential production approaches for customer parts
- Support fluctuating project demands while maintaining responsiveness to customer delivery timelines
- Contribute to process improvements within the quoting and design review workflow
Schedule
- 5-10 hours per week
- Possibility for expanded hours down the road
Qualifications
- Proficiency in 3D design using SolidWorks
- Strong understanding of plastic and metal design and manufacturing processes, including:
· Rotomolding
· Injection molding
· Extrusion
· Thermoforming
· CNC machining
· Laser cutting
- Experience with FEA and computer-based modeling analysis (preferred)
- Familiarity with industrial and military packaging standards (preferred)
- Knowledge of packaging testing methods such as vibration, drop, and submersion testing
- Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate across all levels of the organization
- Excellent technical aptitude and ability to apply technology to practical solutions
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to translate concepts into manufacturable solutions
- Effective organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (required)
