JOB DESCRIPTION:
Preschool/Summer Camp Assistant TEACHER
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Assistant Teacher for our Preschool/Summer Camp Program is a teaching position responsible for providing safe, engaging, and enriching instruction in our Summer Camp classrooms. The position requires a passion for making a difference in the lives of children and building learning experiences that are hands-on and engaging.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The PreSchool/Summer Camp Assistant Teacher is expected to:
- Assist the Lead Teacher to prepare and deliver quality instruction and programming based on play-based learning theory.
- Supervise, engage and support campers.
- Communicate with parents regarding campers’ experiences and provide follow up activities for use at home.
- Maintain OFCS licensing standards and rules.
- Support the Education Director and staff to improve health, safety, and happiness of campers.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or its equivalent AND two years direct experience working with children less than 13 years of age.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Course work in an education field.
- Experience in working with children.
- Camp employment experience.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Must be creative.
- Must have an ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Must possess strong problem-solving skills and communication skills.
- Must be able to relate with campers, staff, and parents.
POSITION TYPE:
- Compensation: $16.00/hour
- Schedule:
- Monday-Friday, Hours vary, preschool/camp is open 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM
- Immediate opening 2-6 PM each day until the last week of June then full-time
- Additional hours may be available.
- Daily on-site required.
- This position is nonexempt.
SUPERVISOR:
Reports to the Director of Education of the Discovery Center of the Southern Tier.
Pay: $16.00 - $16.50 per hour
