Patient Financial Services Counselor
The Patient Financial Services Counselor supports patients in navigating the financial aspects of healthcare, including insurance coverage, billing questions, payment plans, and financial assistance programs. Working closely with Patient Access and Patient Services teams, this role helps patients understand their financial options and access the coverage and resources needed to receive care.
The Certified Applications Financial Counselor assists uninsured and underinsured patients in determining eligibility for MassHealth and other subsidized insurance programs, helping connect patients to affordable coverage.

- Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:30am to 5pm

The Certified Applications Financial Counselor assists uninsured and underinsured patients in determining eligibility for MassHealth and other subsidized insurance programs, helping connect patients to affordable coverage.
Essential Functions
- Assist patients with completing forms and applications for health insurance and financial assistance programs including MassHealth, CMSP, ConnectorCare, and Health Safety Net.
- Follow up on patient enrollment status and documentation requirements.
- Educate patients on insurance coverage options, payment plans, and financial assistance policies.
- Screen and approve patients for financial assistance programs including Sliding Fee Scale according to organizational policies.
- Provide clear and accurate information regarding insurance coverage, patient balances, and financial responsibilities.
- Assist patients with selecting insurance plans, preparing self-pay estimates, and collecting deposits or payments when applicable.
- Ensure accurate and complete patient registration and documentation.
- Prepare reports and compile statistical information for MTF, DPH, and other funding agencies as required.
- Develop working relationships with community agencies to support efficient referral processes.
- Assist with the development of culturally appropriate education materials for outreach and enrollment activities.
- Participate in meetings related to grants, contracts, and program requirements.
- Maintain knowledge of financial policies and procedures at The Dimock Center.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Commitment to service excellence and supporting access to care for underserved populations.
- Basic knowledge of managed care policies and medical terminology.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s Degree preferred.
- Fluency in Spanish or Cape Verdean Creole required.
- Experience in healthcare, financial counseling, or social services preferred.
