Position Summary
The Marketing Manager is responsible for directing the Delaware State Fair’s overall marketing, advertising, design development, promotional programs, signage and corporate communications. This role leads strategic initiatives that enhance the Fair’s brand, drive attendance, support revenue growth, and strengthen community engagement across all Fair operations, including year-round facilities and events.
Core Responsibilities
1. Strategic Marketing & Planning
- Design, implement, and manage the Fair’s annual marketing plan.
- Support the development and execution of divisional marketing plans (Fair, rentals, entertainment programming, and special events).
- Analyze market trends, audience data, and campaign performance to inform strategic decisions.
2. Budgeting & Financial Oversight
- Plan and administer the Marketing Operations budget.
- Collaborate with department leaders to develop and manage divisional marketing budgets.
- Ensure cost-effective allocation of marketing resources while maximizing return on investment.
3. Entertainment Marketing & Coordination
- Oversee marketing aspects of entertainment programming including artist promotion.
- Assist in entertainment selection and coordinate marketing requirements tied to artist contracts and riders.
- Work closely with Stage Manager and production teams to align promotional efforts.
4. Digital Marketing & Content Management
- Lead all digital marketing initiatives including campaign development, execution, and reporting.
- Create and organize digital assets for advertising and media campaigns.
- Present digital strategy performance and insights to executive leadership.
- Utilize analytics to optimize campaigns and audience engagement.
5. Social Media & Online Presence
- Manage and grow the Fair’s presence across platforms including Facebook, Instagram, X, and website channels.
- Develop, schedule, and publish engaging content including articles, videos, and promotional materials.
- Maintain a consistent and professional brand voice across all communications.
- Monitor and respond to public inquiries and feedback in a timely and thoughtful manner.
6. Branding, Signage & Visual Identity
- Develop and manage the Fair’s comprehensive signage program.
- Ensure brand consistency across all physical and digital touchpoints.
- Oversee creative design elements supporting campaigns, events, and sponsor visibility.
7. Corporate Communications & Public Relations
- Lead all internal and external communications strategies.
- Oversee public relations efforts including media outreach, press releases, and crisis communications.
- Ensure clear and consistent messaging across departments and stakeholders.
8. Email Marketing & Database Management
- Develop and manage email marketing campaigns and subscriber databases.
- Maintain and grow mailing lists including ticket buyers and promotional audiences.
- Analyze email performance metrics to improve engagement and conversion.
9. Event Support & Fair Week Operations
- Assist with sponsorship execution and grounds entertainment coordination during Fair Week.
- Provide on-site marketing support to ensure seamless execution of promotional initiatives.
- Work in both office and outdoor environments as required.
10. Industry Engagement & Professional Development
- Represent the Fair in industry organizations such as IAFE and MAAFS.
- Stay current with marketing trends, tools, and best practices.
- Promote the Fair’s brand and leadership within the industry.
11. Administrative & Committee Participation
- Attend and participate in committee meetings as requested.
- Serve as recording secretary when assigned, including preparation of meeting minutes.
- Support cross-departmental collaboration and communication.
Employment Standards
Education
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Preferred concentration in Marketing, Business, Communications, or related field.
Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive marketing leadership experience.
- Proven success in developing and executing comprehensive marketing strategies.
- Experience in entertainment, event, or venue marketing is strongly preferred.
Required Skills & Competencies
Proven experience in developing and executing integrated marketing campaigns across digital, social, email, and traditional channels
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced, event-driven environment
Proficiency in marketing tools and platforms (email marketing systems, social media management, CRM tools, WordPress, analytics platforms)
Proficiency in creative platforms (Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, etc.)
Strong public speaking skills and ability to easily execute on-air interviews
Experience tracking and reporting on KPIs such as attendance, engagement, and sponsorship ROI
Strong leadership, organizational, and project management skills.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication abilities.
- Proven ability to multitask and perform under tight deadlines.
- Proficiency in digital marketing tools and platforms.
