Year-Round Position | Bangor Area
The Courageous Steps Project is seeking dedicated, compassionate Behavioral Health Professionals (BHPs) to join our growing Home & Community Services team. Our BHPs work 1:1 with children and young adults to build functional skills, increase independence, support social-emotional development, and promote meaningful participation at home, school, and in the community.
This position is year-round to ensure continuity and stability for the clients we serve.
College Applicants – Please Read
If you are currently enrolled in college, you must reside in the Bangor area for the majority of the year, including the academic year and summer months.
Occasional time away for major holidays is acceptable, but extended breaks (winter, summer, etc.) that remove you from the region are not compatible with this role. Stability and consistency are essential to client progress.
About the Role
As a BHP, you will:
- Provide 1:1 support to children and youth with functional skill deficits impacting daily living, social skills, communication, emotional regulation, and community participation.
- Implement individualized treatment plans focused on ADLs, functional independence, safety awareness, social development, executive functioning, and behavior management strategies.
- Use evidence-based practices and developmentally appropriate interventions such as modeling, prompting, shaping, visual supports, task breakdowns, and reinforcement systems.
- Support clients across natural environments including the home, school, after-school programs, and community settings.
- Collaborate closely with families, care coordinators, teachers, and the supervising clinician.
- Document sessions thoroughly and professionally in our electronic documentation system.
- Participate in ongoing training, supervision, and team meetings to support skill development and high-quality service delivery.
Schedule
- Flexible, part-time hours based on client needs.
- Most available hours occur after school (typically 2:30–6:30pm) because the majority of our clients are school-aged.
- Only occasional daytime clients are available; applicants should not expect a primarily daytime schedule.
- Ideal for students in education, psychology, human development, social work, nursing, or related fields.
Who Thrives in This Position
This role is an excellent fit for individuals who:
- Love working with children and youth with diverse abilities.
- Are dependable, patient, and skilled at building rapport.
- Are eager to learn and grow professionally.
- Can work independently in the field with strong support from supervisors.
- Manage flexible schedules and can problem-solve in real time.
- Understand the importance of routine, consistency, and skill generalization.
You do not need prior experience as a BHP — we provide training and support.
