Special Education Teacher — Leavenworth School District (KS) Quick Facts Location: Leavenworth, KS Setting: Elementary School Schedule: Monday–Friday, school-day hours; follows school calendar Employment Type: W-2 Start Date: ASAP Client: Leavenworth School District Position Summary The Special Education Teacher provides high-quality instruction and services in accordance with district policies and federal/state/local regulations. Core duties include case management; developing, implementing, and monitoring IEPs; leading IEP meetings; collaborating with multidisciplinary teams; supervising and scheduling paraeducators; and implementing behavior intervention plans to ensure students receive a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE). Candidates may also be aligned to similar roles (e.g., Process Coordinator, Academic Evaluator, Case Manager, Teacher of Record) based on district needs. These roles carry similar requirements, responsibilities, and expectations. In-person modalities are determined by client and organizational needs. Key Responsibilities Prepare and maintain a wide range of compliant documentation (e.g., IEPs, progress reports, notice of meeting, prior written notice). Develop, implement, and oversee IEPs aligned to federal/state guidelines and district procedures. Design and deliver specially designed instruction; differentiate to diverse learning needs. Implement and monitor behavior intervention plans; participate in problem-solving teams. Communicate proactively with students, families, related service providers, and administrators to ensure timely, high-quality services. Track progress with accurate data collection; adjust instruction/interventions accordingly. Schedule and facilitate IEP meetings; ensure stakeholder participation and compliance. Provide direction/supervision to assigned staff (e.g., paraeducators, new teachers) per district and state/federal rules. Complete required documentation and any district-specific billing activities per policy. Stay current on research, best practices, and compliance updates; apply learning to practice. Perform additional duties as assigned by the district. Minimum Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution. Licensure: Holds or is eligible for a KS teaching license with appropriate Special Education endorsement. Demonstrated knowledge of content standards, specialized curricula, and individualized methodologies. Proficiency with multi-media and assistive technology to enhance access and learning. Strong collaboration skills with students, colleagues, administrators, and parents/guardians. Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills. Supervision Determined by the district; may include paraeducators, new teachers, or other assigned staff. Why Join The Columbus Organization?
