The approximate base compensation range is posted, but the actual offer will reflect our total compensation and benefits package. The offer will be determined by a number of factors including the selected candidate’s experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, FTE, number of months worked, as well as internal equity among our team.

Position Summary

Responsible for performing advanced accounting and financial reporting functions in support of higher education operations. This position prepares and maintains financial records, reconciles and analyzes accounts, supports financial audits, and assists in ensuring compliance with institutional, state, federal, and GAAP accounting standards. The role works collaboratively with campus departments to provide accurate financial information, support sound fiscal management, and maintain effective internal controls.

Essential Functions

Accounting and Financial Reporting

  • Prepare, review, and maintain accounting records, journal entries, and general ledger reconciliations in accordance with GAAP and institutional policies.
  • Prepare and analyze financial reports, schedules, and supporting documentation for internal and external reporting purposes.
  • Review financial transactions and accounting documents to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with applicable policies and regulations.
  • Identify discrepancies, prepare correcting entries, and resolve accounting issues through research and analysis.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities and financial statement preparation.

Audit and Compliance

  • Prepare audit workpapers and supporting documentation for internal and external audits.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies, audit standards, and applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Assist with required tax filings, reporting requirements, and financial monitoring activities.
  • Support implementation and maintenance of internal controls and accounting best practices.

Financial Analysis and Operational Support

  • Conduct financial analysis and prepare recommendations to support departmental and institutional decision-making.
  • Interpret and explain accounting policies, procedures, and financial information to departments and campus stakeholders with varying levels of financial knowledge.
  • Assist departments with budget and financial inquiries while providing high-quality customer service and fiscal guidance.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives to increase operational efficiency and strengthen financial controls.

Collaboration And Professional Responsibilities

  • Exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality in handling financial information.
  • Work collaboratively with internal departments, leadership, and external partners to support institutional financial operations.
  • Contribute to team goals, special projects, and continuous improvement efforts within the finance and accounting function.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), financial reporting methods, and financial statement preparation.
  • Experience preparing and maintaining accounting records, reconciliations, and financial reports.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal formats.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet established deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in higher education, governmental, nonprofit, or public sector accounting environments.
  • Experience with general ledger accounting, journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end or year-end close processes.
  • Experience supporting financial audits and preparing audit workpapers and supporting documentation.
  • Knowledge of compliance requirements related to higher education finance, grants, restricted funds, or state and federal regulations.
  • Experience performing financial analysis and preparing financial reports for leadership or external agencies.
  • Familiarity with ERP or higher education financial systems such as Banner, Workday, PeopleSoft, or similar platforms.
  • Ability to interpret and apply accounting policies, procedures, laws, and regulations.
  • Demonstrated initiative, sound judgment, and ability to work independently.
  • Experience collaborating with diverse campus stakeholders and supporting inclusive workplace initiatives.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills.

Salary : $60,000 - $80,000
