What are the responsibilities and job description for the Café Associate position at The Coffee Pot Bakery Cafe?
Our small, close-knit team at The Coffee Pot Bakery Cafe is looking for a hard-working, team-minded Cafe Associate to join our crew! Our culture at the Coffee Pot is built around a collaborative team of people who have helpful attitudes, are welcoming and friendly to all customers, and willing to do what it takes to support each other and help our little bakery/cafe provide delicious food and an excellent experience.
In order to facilitate a better work-life balance, we run our shifts at 7 hours each (latest shift ends around 3pm). Each person on our cafe team is cross-trained in all roles, and rotates through a number of positions & tasks on a daily basis. The rotations include: running the register(s), prepping/plating food, food runner/busser, dishwasher, barista, expediter. Each team member is also trained on answering the phones, making several of our in-house food recipes, helping customers in our handmade pottery gift shop, various side tasks (ex. wrapping burritos), and performing cleaning tasks.

HOURS: This position would be between 21-28 hours per week (3-4 shifts), rotating through both the 7:30am-2:30pm and 8am-3pm shifts from Monday - Friday, and 7:30-1pm on Saturdays.
SATURDAY ROTATION: the whole cafe team rotates fairly through Saturdays, and each person can expect about 1-2 Saturdays off per month. Being on this Saturday rotation is a requirement for the position.
PAY: The base pay for this position ranges from $13-$15 per hour DOE, plus shared tips, which average to $7.00/hr over a year long comparison period.

TASKS & REQUIREMENTS: Include but are not limited to:
- Preparing customer meals and espresso drinks in a food-safe, timely, and consistent manner.
- Executing in-house food recipes and sauces consistently and quickly, with an awareness of quality.
- Performing basic addition, subtraction, and multiplication in order to accurately handle cash transactions, take food and ingredient inventories, and execute recipes accurately.
- Handling and preparing both raw and cooked foods for cooking/serving.
- Maintaining and documenting food and beverage inventories and restocking.
- Communicating with customers to provide an excellent customer experience, as well as resolve complaints when needed.
- Comprehensive knowledge of food and beverage menu, ingredients, and possible allergens in order to safely and accurately make recommendations to customers.
- Carefully cleaning food and beverage preparation areas and equipment.
- Participating in kitchen and dining area deep-cleaning duties.
- Accurate and speedy navigation of the Point of Sale System.
- Proficiency with the iPad interface, card reader equipment, and telephone system.
- Offering kindness, a welcoming attitude, and ongoing patience and helpfulness to each customer while taking orders and helping them throughout their visit.
- Working alongside fellow team members in a collaborative manner.
- Because this job requires constant communication with customers over the phone and in person, as well as collaboration between team members for our systems to function correctly, it is necessary for applicants to be fluent in both written and spoken English for this role.
- Ability to manage time well, including punctuality & reliability, efficiently executing tasks, and being careful to look for additional tasks to help with when known duties are finished.
- Ability to follow systems consistently.
- Ongoing teachability and flexibility.
- Once trained, will participate in our group/team training model to onboard new staff members.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to lift 50lbs (ex. stocking a bag of flour, carrying a full pot of soup, etc.)
