BMCC seeks a transformational leader for the role of Assistant Vice President (AVP) for Finance. The AVP for Finance will play a critical role in advancing BMCC’s mission of equity, student success, and institutional excellence. Reporting to the Vice President of Finance and Administration, the AVP directs the financial division, including Budget, Procurement, Controller’s Office, Revenue Management, and Bursar’s Office, and serves as the internal control officer. The AVP is a key member of the college’s leadership team, and may serve on the President’s Cabinet, actively participating in strategic planning, committee work, and institutional decision-making.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Direct comprehensive budget and financial operations, overseeing all tax levy and non-tax levy accounts.
- Collaborate with executive leadership to align financial planning with institutional priorities, ensuring fiscal sustainability and transparency.
- Provide recommendations and analysis to inform strategic and financial decisions.
- Identify opportunities for process redesign, ERP transformation, and technology adoption to improve financial operations.
- Develop and implement communication plans for administrative, operational, or technical changes.
- Establish and maintain internal controls to ensure compliance with financial legislation, policies, and procedures.
- Guide direct reports in developing operational plans and timelines, foster engagement, team building, and consensus across the organization.
- Collaborate with CUNY Central Budget Office to track, audit, and manage the budget.
- Perform related duties as assigned by the Vice President of Finance and Administration.
Transformational Leadership Responsibilities:
- Champion a student-centered approach to financial planning, ensuring resource allocation supports equitable student outcomes and institutional transformation.
- Use data-driven analysis to inform decisions, measure impact, and drive continuous improvement.
- Lead change management initiatives, including process redesign and technology adoption.
- Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing finance team through mentorship, professional development, and cross-functional engagement.
- Prioritize equity in financial models and resource allocation decisions.
- Build and sustain partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Implement robust accountability systems and performance metrics.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications:
- This position is in CUNY’s Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a bachelor’s degree and eight years’ related experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in a related accounting or business field and/or CPA license, and prior experience in a college or university setting.
- Eight (8) years of progressively responsible full-time paid experience in an administrative or managerial capacity in accounting/financials or a closely related area.
- Experience implementing and managing financial systems, including cash management, accounts receivable/payable, budgeting, procurement, campus services, and asset management.
- Experience with ERP software (Banner, PeopleSoft, Workday) strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of financial data and systems integration, bank integrations, payment processing, and compliance with financial regulations.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Salary range is $160,000 - $185,000; Salary commensurate with education and experience.
