The City University of New York seeks an experienced and visionary professional to serve as Chief Diversity Officer at the CUNY School of Law, the premier public interest law school in the nation. CUNY School of Law has a dual mission to education students to practice law in service of human needs, and to transform the practice of law and legal education to make it more inclusive and just. We are the most diverse law school on the East Coast, and the top-ranked law school in the country for clinical legal education. We seek an experienced, innovative, collaborative, and inspiring leader to serve as our Chief Diversity Officer (CDO).
The CDO will report directly to the Dean of CUNY School of Law; ensure compliance of the law school with relevant standards and regulations; lead law school-wide efforts to develop a strategic vision; and implement an operational plan that systemically advances equity, diversity, inclusion, and intersectionality as part of CUNY School of Law’s core identity.
The CDO will serve as both a senior resource and a strategic partner collaborating with CUNY School of Law’s faculty, students, administrators, and staff to initiate, define, oversee, and report on the outcomes of diversity initiatives, policies, and programs. The CDO’s portfolio will include work across the full range of the law school’s activities and will establish systems of accountability to promote the continuous improvement of institutional diversity using data driven metrics. In addition to reporting results to the campus communities, the CDO will use these results as progress indicators to support future strategic planning.
In This Role, The CDO
This position is in CUNY’s Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and eight years’ related experience. The preferred candidate will be a proactive and strategic advocate, partner, and leader who will develop constructive relationships with faculty, administration, students, alumni, and other law school stakeholders. Candidates with organizational and strategic diversity experience and a proven record of accomplishment of successfully advancing diversity initiatives are preferred.
Candidates should have many of the following qualifications and characteristics:
A minimum of eight (8) years of full-time progressively responsible experience in one or more of the following fields: equal opportunity investigation and compliance, human resources, labor relations, or personneladministration.

In This Role, The CDO
- Serves as a liaison between individual students and student groups, faculty, and the School of Law administrationondiversity,equity,andinclusionissues.AdvisestheDeanoncommunicatingtheLawSchool’s values and stance on diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Oversees the investigation of discrimination complaints in accordance with the University’s Non- DiscriminationPolicy,andensuringthelawschoolisincompliancewithalllaws,rulesandregulations includingbutnotlimitedtoTitleVII,TitleIV,TitleIXandtheUniversity’sSexualMisconductPolicy.
- Serves astheSchoolofLaw’sTitleIXOfficer and ensures the institution's compliance with Title IX regulations.
- CoordinateswiththeSection504/ADACoordinatorandwithHumanResourcesandOfficeofStudent Engagement in ADA/Reasonable Accommodation requests.
- Createsdiversityandcomplianceprograms,activities,andinitiativesforfaculty,staff,andstudentsdesigned tofosteran inclusiveclimatethatencouragesrespectfordiversity,complieswithapplicablelaw and regulations,andencourages the School of Law community to adopt best practices.
- Collaborates with Human Resources in the recruitment process, including reviewing vacancy postings and advertisements, overseeing search committees in the implementation of regulations, providing orientations to search committees regarding recruitment efforts for facultyandstaff,providinginformationonunder-utilizationforrelevantconstituenciesandmonitoringemployee recruitment and selection to ensure compliance with EEO/AAP policies and plans.

- The position is subject to the same in-person work requirements as other law school administrators and staff, which consist of a minimum 80% on-campus presence over a two-week period. Depending on departmentals and divisional needs, the required in-person presence may exceed 80%.
