Job Summary

Responsible for the personnel management and development of the maintenance staff with adherence to Local, State and Federal regulations. Responsible to manage the contractor maintenance activities.

Job Summary

Job Requirements
- Supervise Operations Team, includes tracking and analyzing performance data.
- Supervise Maintenance Team, includes analyzing modes of failure and preventative procedures.
- The duties of this position include but are not limited to:
- Plans long- and short-range maintenance projects; develops labor and material requirements; assigns work priorities and controls costs within budget.
- Schedules, assigns, and supervises the work of plant mechanics to ensure the efficient installation and repair of treatment process equipment.
- Supervises the daily maintenance and routine preventative maintenance program
- Maintains plant equipment files, preventative maintenance records, and as built drawings.
- Directs the work of subordinate mechanics; ensures safe work habits, adherence to City policies, effective performance, and individual skill development; evaluates personnel.
- Coordinates maintenance, repair, and capital construction with operation staff to facilitate smooth plant operation.
- Inspects Storm water discharge points and response inventory.
- Conducts safety meetings.
- Oversees inventory control
- Responds to after-hours emergencies.
- Performs other related job duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work.
- Must possess a high school diploma or GED from an institution accredited by the state of North Carolina
- Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years experience or service.
- Four (4) years’ experience in a related field of work.

- Knowledge of water treatment processes and equipment.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Class B driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina. Possession of or ability to readily obtain an appropriate state-certified license for water treatment.
- Knowledge of electrical, carpentry, welding, and plumbing tools and techniques
- Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of heavy equipment.
- Knowledge of the operation of machine shop equipment
- Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and fabrication blueprints.
- Knowledge of governmental purchasing policies and procedures.
- Skill in the supervision of personnel.
- Skill in analyzing problems and identifying solutions. Skill in preparing clear and accurate reports.
- Knowledge of environmental and public health regulations governing wastewater treatment and the land application of biosolids as agricultural fertilizer.

- The Water Treatment Plant Superintendent assigns work in terms of very general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results.
- The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects, climbs ladders, and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.
- The work is typically performed in an office, a water treatment plant, and outdoors. The employee is exposed to noise, machinery with moving parts, contagious diseases, irritating chemicals, and occasional cold or inclement weather. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, and gloves.
- SAFETY IS UPMOST IMPORTANCE
- Supervisory and Management: This position has direct supervision over three (3) mechanics, one (1) electrician, and two (2) maintenance workers.
