Light Equipment Operator

The City of Lampasas is currently accepting applications for the position of Light Equipment Operator.

Summary of Position

Operates light equipment in order to construct and maintain streets and drainage systems.

Starting salary is $15.660 per hour, DOQ, plus excellent benefits.

Essential duties

o Operates equipment, including but not limited to trucks, loader, compactors, rollers, shovels, rakes, brush chipper, mowers and weed eaters;
o Performs manual labor; uses tools and equipment required to maintain, repair, and construct streets, drainage and alley systems;
o Maintains equipment in proper working condition, including checking oil, water, fuel, tires, and hydraulic system, and making appropriate adjustments;
o Loads, transports, and unloads construction materials and equipment;
o Assists with patching, tamping, packing, and leveling hot mix, dirt, or other materials during road repair;
o Smooth road surfaces using heavy equipment;
o Trims trees and brush lining streets, including hauling brush and branches; and
o Clears ditches, creeks, and storm drains.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of: street construction and maintenance; and safety procedures for job sites and operation of equipment.

Skill/Ability to: operate light equipment; understand and follow instructions; interpret policies and procedures; communicate effectively; and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers.

Acceptable Experience and Training

o High school graduation, or its equivalent;
o or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Certificates and Licenses Required

o Valid Texas drivers’ license;
o Must be able to obtain a valid Texas commercial drivers’ license (CDL) Class B within an allowed time frame.
