The City of Lampasas is currently accepting applications for the position of Heavy Equipment Operator.
Summary of Position
Operates medium to heavy duty equipment in construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, drainage, and other facilities for the City of Lampasas.
Starting salary is $17.782/hour, DOQ, plus excellent benefits.
Essential Functions:
o Operate equipment including, but not limited to, trucks, loader, compactor, roller, backhoe, bulldozer, distributor, and chip spreader;
o Performs manual labor utilizing tools and equipment required to maintain, repair, and construct streets, drainage, and alley systems;
o Operates medium to heavy duty equipment required to maintain, repair, and construct streets, drainage, and alley systems;
o Performs scheduled maintenance on assigned equipment and reports malfunctions or failures immediately to crew leader;
o Performs other duties as directed or assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
o Knowledge of the capability and limitation of the assigned vehicle or machinery and of the hazards, precautionary measures, and proper safety practices;
o Knowledge of equipment and tools commonly used on road construction and maintenance of roads;
o Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Acceptable Experience and Training:
o High school diploma or GED;
o Two years of equipment operating experience or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Certificates and Licenses Required:
o Valid Texas Class C driver’s license;
o Ability to obtain Texas commercial driver’s license (CDL) Class B within first 12 months of employment.
