POSITION SUMMARY
The role is to perform general accounting and reporting functions for the Cigna Global Health Benefits division. This includes being responsible for preparation of journal entries, payment requests, account reconciliations, and various types of reporting and analysis. The role will work to identify and lead opportunities for process improvements related to these deliverables, collaborate and coordinate processes with key contacts across the company and act as a subject matter expert for assigned duties. The role will also participate in complex financial analysis, special projects and/or ad hoc reporting as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Primary point of contact for the Actuarial team who determines reserves for the entire North America GHB business and subject matter expert for the related accounting process to record monthly change in reserves, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
Responsible for all aspects of premium revenue and expense recognition within the North America MOR for activities related to the Middle East (CIME & KSA) legal entities. The regulatory requirements within the Middle East, the use of Notional premium, and cross interaction with reinsurance and captive agreements add extra layers of complexity to this continuously growing and evolving area of business.
Responsible for working with various operational teams to accrue for various bonus and supplemental compensation programs and performance guarantees.
TASKS INCLUDED
Preparation and some review of all related journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations and analyses.
Supports the monthly and quarterly balance sheet account reconciliation process, including timely resolution of variances, development of process improvement recommendations and appropriate issue resolution.
Follows, creates, and maintains policies & procedures related to areas of responsibility.
Identifies areas to improve efficiency and drives improvement by actively engaging business partners, developing and utilizing automation tools (e.g. Alteryx or robotics) and collaborating with team members.
Supports both internal and external audits. Maintains a strong control environment, follows established internal controls and maintains appropriate supporting documentation in accordance with Sarbanes Oxley.
Plays an active role to coordinate with key business partners; including leading routine meetings, identifying mitigation plans, influencing business partners to resolve issues on a timely basis, and works with business partners to continuously improve data integrity and data governance for better reporting and analyses.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting preferred.
3 years of Accounting/Finance experience: public accounting or insurance related experience a plus, but not required.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work in a multi-task environment with tight deadlines.
Ability to work independently and as a team player.
Motivated, proactive self-starter.
Willing to primarily work East coast business hours and can flex schedule to accommodate international time zones when needed.
This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus plan.
