The clinician is a professional nurse who is an expert in the care of a specified patient population/subspecialty area. The clinician assumes a leadership role and supervisory responsibilities in the development, organization, and implementation of care services for the specified patient population.

Anesthesia Pre-Admit Screening Service (APASS) The Anesthesia Pre-Admit Screening Service (APASS) is a hospital-based clinic at Children’s of Alabama dedicated to ensuring the safety and preparedness of pediatric patients undergoing anesthesia. Our primary focus is on providing thorough pre-anesthesia evaluations and consultations to identify and mitigate potential surgery and anesthesia-related complications. Key Services: Pre-Anesthesia Evaluations & Consultations: We conduct comprehensive assessments to decrease the likelihood of procedural delays and cancellations due to unforeseen circumstances. Parental Education & Support: APASS offers detailed education on surgical and anesthesia processes to alleviate parental fears and anxiety, ensuring families are well-informed and comfortable with upcoming procedures. Inpatient & Pre-Op Screening: Our team screens all inpatient cases scheduled for anesthesia and performs pre-op evaluations on the morning of surgery, including anesthesia consent education. Collaborative Approach: Working closely with the Pediatric Anesthesia team, including anesthesiologists and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs), APASS ensures a seamless and coordinated approach to patient care. Our collaborative efforts aim to provide the highest standard of safety and comfort for our pediatric patients.
