What are the responsibilities and job description for the Temporary Family Advocate position at The Children's Home Society Of New Jersey?
The Temporary Family Advocate provides short-term coverage to ensure continuity of family services during staff leave under FMLA. This role supports enrolled Head Start/Early Head Start families by maintaining compliance with Head Start Performance Standards and program expectations related to family engagement, attendance, and community partnerships.
Flexible and varied work schedule, including evenings and weekends as required. Schedule will be determined and coordinated by the Family and Community Engagement Manager. Candidates must have a car and valid driver’s license as travel throughout Trenton and all Early Head Start and Head Start Centers is required.
Duration of Employment: 3-6 Months with the possibility of Extension
Hourly Rate: $19.25
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain assigned caseload of families during staff absence
- Complete and update Family Partnership Agreements (FPAs)
- Conduct home visits
- Monitor and follow up on attendance concerns, including chronic absenteeism
- Support families in setting and achieving self-sufficiency goals
- Provide referrals to community resources (housing, employment, health, mental health, food assistance, etc.)
- Document all contacts, services, and follow-up in the program data system
- Assist with enrollment, recruitment, and retention efforts as needed
- Support parent engagement activities and encourage participation in program events
- Ensure confidentiality and compliance with Head Start Performance Standards
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma
- 1 year working with children and families
Additional Qualifications:
- Work experience with multicultural populations.
- Ability to write reports and correspondence, and read and interpret documents
- Knowledge of various software programs such as MS Word, Excel, Power-Point, and Publisher. ChildPlus software or equivalent a plus
- Ability to effectively engage and communicate with community members and groups, managers, regulatory agencies, and families both individually and in group settings
- Ability to organize and manage time effectively
