The Curtis Blake Day School @ PRN, part of the Positive Regard Network and located in Holyoke, MA, invites applicants for the position of Special Education Teacher. This position will, under the supervision of the Educational Administrator, provide academic instruction and enrichment for students in areas related to license as outlined by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). This position will also assist all students in increasing their reading capabilities through school-wide reading programs, literacy materials and resources, and ongoing collaboration with Special Education Teachers, parents and administrators. Position is 40 hours per week, 12 months per year.
Qualifications: Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis on special education or reading; a Master’s degree in education with a reading specialist concentration is preferred. Qualified candidates will have Massachusetts DESE licensure as a Teacher of Special Education or Reading Specialist.
Ideal candidates will have experience teaching students with language-based learning disabilities and will possess a demonstrated enthusiasm for working with children, the ability to collaborate with others and cultivate community, and excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. In addition, preference will be given to candidates with training and/or certification in Orton Gillingham, Wilson Language, or other programs that incorporate a structured literacy approach. This individual should also demonstrate a commitment to using innovative pedagogical practices and technology to enhance instruction, as well as enthusiasm. Candidates should also have a working knowledge of all federal/state ESE regulations, particularly with regard to special education, MCAS testing, IDEA and NCLB.

Additional education, certifications, or specialized skills may justify a higher starting salary.
