Job Purpose Statement

The Center for Children & Families is seeking a dynamic Marketing & Communications Director to lead the execution of the agency’s marketing and communications strategy, brand stewardship, messaging, referral development, fundraising, and stakeholder engagement across all geographic markets served by the agency. The Director is responsible for collaboratively executing a unified, data-driven strategy that tells the story of The Center in a powerful way, increasing organizational visibility, cultivating community partnerships, fueling donor engagement and retention, inspiring volunteerism with the organization, expanding service referrals, and deepening community trust. This role leads and develops a team of dedicated, talented marketing staff to accomplish the organization’s goals and mission.

Required Candidate Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, business, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Three or more years of leadership responsibilities in marketing, communications, or brand management, preferably within nonprofit, human services, or mission-driven organizations
  • Three or more years of supervisory experience managing teams, volunteers, and/or projects
  • Comprehensive portfolio of social media content, graphic design projects, and digital communications (video and podcasts preferred)
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite, Canva, Adobe, Customer Relationship Management software, and AI tools (preferred)

The ideal candidate should possess the following characteristics and skills:

  • Proven record of leading marketing efforts, content creation, fundraising, and public relations
  • Successful experience with outreach strategies, building relationships with community organizations, businesses, schools, universities, churches, and local leaders
  • Proven ability to organize events, manage projects/campaigns, and work collaboratively
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including collaboration, adaptability, and high personal ownership
  • Exceptional proficiency in public speaking with an ability to engage various audiences (in-person and via teleconference) to inspire towards a direct call to action
  • Excellent writing skills with a strong ability to create persuasive messaging and content
  • Innovative and creative content creator skilled in graphic design, presentation, and storytelling
  • Effective management competencies and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and timelines
  • Strong alignment and commitment to The Center’s mission, vision, and values

Key Duties & Responsibilites

  • Leadership & Marketing Direction
  • Serve as the agency’s marketing leader, working intricately and collaboratively with Program Directors and senior leadership to identify and address marketing needs and opportunities
  • Execute a comprehensive marketing strategy aligned with The Center’s strategic plan, organizational goals, values, and mission
  • Lead, manage, and develop the marketing department, including its staff, contractors, and volunteers, while fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, support, and accountability
  • Develop and execute regionally tailored marketing plans, oversee budgets, and staffing structures to ensure operational efficiency
  • Track and report marketing key performance indicators to inform strategic decisions and drive continuous improvement
  • Serve as a brand steward, ensuring all communications and promotions align with the agency’s mission, vision, values, and brand voice to uphold the agency’s reputation
  • Brand Management: Content & Messaging
  • Oversee all marketing and communications, including brand description, messaging, advertising, promotion, social media, print and digital content, website, email marketing, newsletter, and public relations for The Center
  • Oversee the development of high-quality content for campaigns, reports, donor communications, storytelling projects, social media, the company website, and other relevant platforms
  • Supervise the creation and distribution of graphic designs, promotional materials, branded products, and print/digital assets
  • Community Partnerships & Referral Development
  • Actively cultivate and foster strategic partnerships with local community organizations, businesses, schools, universities, churches, and other civic groups to promote the mission and vision of The Center
  • Grow community awareness of the agency’s programs and services through consistent outreach, community-based trainings, and relationship-driven engagement that promotes volunteer engagement, community requests for services and trainings, and leads to increased referral pipelines
  • Collaborate with all program leaders to identify, prioritize, and engage in high-value partnerships that amplify service impact and opportunities for funding, referrals, volunteering, or staffing
  • Public & Media Relations
  • Design and support public relations initiatives that elevate The Center’s visibility and assist agency leadership in positioning the organization as a trusted voice
  • Function as the primary liaison for media inquiries, press strategy, and interview coordinator
  • Cultivate and foster strong relationships with media outlets, key personnel, community leaders, and influencers in all major media markets for all service areas
  • Oversee all media outreach, press releases, talking points, and core messaging
  • Serve as an on-air spokesperson for routine non-sensitive television, radio, and digital media requests and appearances, or coordinate the appropriate spokesperson for high-stakes communications
  • Digital Marketing & Social Media
  • Direct and optimize the agency’s digital marketing strategy across all platforms, ensuring strong SEO, analytics, content performance, and audience growth
  • Manage digital advertising strategy, budgets, and performance metrics
  • Oversee social media strategy and execution, supporting staff in creation and delivery
  • Champion innovation in digital storytelling (i.e., video, audio, on-demand content, etc.).
  • Events, Sponsorships & Development Initiatives
  • Lead and support the planning, advertising, promotion, and execution of all community engagement events, trainings, or fundraising communications initiatives, facilitated by The Center
  • Create and oversee event sponsorship initiatives to drive community engagement and event profitability
  • Partner with the CEO and Development Board to explore opportunities for strategic donor engagement, corporate partnerships, and other funding sources
  • Oversee the agency’s Donor recognition and retention initiatives
