The Faculty Scholarship and Services Librarian

-provides proactive faculty scholarship support and advanced reference services to law faculty, students, and other members of the law school community. -

  • oversees the institutional repository, provides research assistance for faculty publications, and develops programs to track and promote the impact of the law school’s academic research.
  • manages faculty research initiatives, including the supervision of the research assistants program to provide training and continued assistance for complex scholarly projects.


The Faculty Scholarship and Services Librarian also plays a lead role in collection development and resource management to ensure the library's materials effectively support the teaching and research interests of the institution.

The projected salary range for this position, which represents the full range of anticipated compensation, is $70,000-80,000.

  • Coordinates reference and research requests from all law school faculty, as a primary


point of contact.

  • Works with the Reference Services team to help library patrons in all aspects of


using the library’s collection, equipment, and electronic resources. This may include

responding to students, faculty, and visitor questions about the techniques of legal

research in a variety of instructional settings including, but not limited to, one-to-one

in-person and virtual consultations, small group presentations, formal classes and

workshops, telephone and email help.

  • Coordinates the training and management of 1-2 student research assistants assigned


to the library who support comprehensive faculty research projects. Additionally,

this role ensures that research assistants directly employed by the faculty receive the

necessary guidance and support to facilitate high-level scholarship.

  • Supports faculty scholarship by initiating regular contact to stay current on specific


research interests and requirements. This role involves managing comprehensive

research projects, providing guidance on citation management tools such as Zotero,

and coordinating the publication process to ensure faculty work meets the highest

standards of academic excellence. Develops programs to track and promote the

impact of the law school’s academic research, expanding use of ORCHID, SSRN,

etc.

  • Supports faculty teaching by and course preparation though the administration of


digital learning platforms with TWEN and Brightspace. This role ensures seamless

integration of library course reserves to enable student access.

  • Responsible for compiling The Bibliography of Faculty Scholarship and the CUA


Law Scholarship brochure on an annual basis. The bibliography identifies the known

published scholarship of current, emeritus and retired faculty members, while the

annual brochure highlights the scholarship achievements of the faculty and students

over the past 12 months. Responsible for maintaining and acting as the

administrator to the institutional repository which includes loading articles and

events. With the Access Services Librarian, works with Law Review and Journal

staff identifying and troubleshooting any issues with the repository.

  • Identifies gaps in the collection based on emerging faculty research interests and law


school curricular needs. Provides direct feedback to the Assistant Directors of

Research Services and Collection Services regarding which electronic subscriptions

or print series are most utilized by, or most important to the faculty to help prioritize

the library’s budget.

  • Organizes outreach and marketing materials, including being responsible for the


faculty newsletter, published nine times per calendar year. Manages faculty events

promoting library services, including one-on-one instructional sessions.

  • Provide instruction in legal research resources and techniques in law school courses.


Teach research classes as assigned and the American Law Program in Krakow,

Poland. Provide instruction in specialized legal research in subject area upper-level

courses (e.g. Conflict of Laws). Provide basic and advanced instruction on using

Lexis, Westlaw, as well as other subscription and non-subscription electronic legal

resources in both individual and small group settings.

  • Supports Law Library yearly statistical obligations by developing and maintaining


customized reports specific to faculty scholarship and services. This includes

organizing and distributing a biennial faculty survey.

Master’s of Library Science (M.L.S.) degree from an A.L.A. approved library school. required. ABA

accredited Juris Doctor degree preferred.

Two years minimum working as a professional librarian in a legal setting.

Proven ability to manage complex expectations.

Comprehensive knowledge and professional experience with legal bibliography and legal research.

Proven background in providing sophisticated reference services incorporating both print and electronic sources

employed in a major research library.

Understanding of foreign and international legal research.

Proven background in providing library outreach through working with a diverse clientele, including faculty, and law students.

Ability and commitment to implementing information technology.

Strong service orientation and collegial work style.

Salary : $70,000 - $80,000
