Position Overview
St. Petersburg Catholic High School is seeking a dynamic and knowledgeable Head Track & Field Coach to lead and develop our boys and girls Track & Field program. The Head Coach is responsible for shaping a culture of excellence that reflects the mission, values, and traditions of SPC. This role requires leadership, organization, mentorship, and a commitment to the academic and athletic development of student-athletes.
Primary Responsibilities
Program Leadership

Provide vision, direction, and supervision for the Track & Field program.

Promote a positive, competitive, and inclusive team environment.

Develop a comprehensive training plan for all event groups: sprints, distance, hurdles, relays, throws, and jumps.

Set goals and expectations that support achievement, character, and sportsmanship.
Athlete Development

Teach proper technique, event fundamentals, and conditioning.

Monitor safety, injury prevention, and strength development.

Support academic success, behavioral expectations, and personal growth.

Build strong relationships with student-athletes and foster team unity.
Coaching Staff Collaboration

Recruit, mentor, and supervise assistant coaches and volunteer coaches.

Delegate event group responsibilities and ensure adequate coverage.

Communicate effectively with staff, athletes, and families.
Program Operations

Plan, organize, and oversee practices, meets, and postseason events.

Manage meet entries, equipment, inventory, and uniforms.

Coordinate transportation, facilities, and logistics with the Athletic Department.

Maintain compliance with SPC, Diocese, and FHSAA rules and policies.
Qualifications

Previous coaching experience in Track & Field (high school or collegiate) preferred.

Strong knowledge of event areas, training theory, and competition strategy.

Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.

Ability to motivate, teach, and mentor student-athletes.

Completion of all required certifications, background checks, and trainings.
Time Commitment

Seasonal position with preseason, regular season, and postseason responsibilities.

Evening and weekend obligations may be required for practices and meets.
