Hospice On-Call (7on/7off) Registered Nurse - 26 weeks off a year!
The On-Call Registered Nurse provides evening, overnight, and weekend support for hospice patients and families. This role follows a 7-day-on / 7-day-off schedule (4:30 pm–8:30 am weekends), offering 26 weeks off per year while still receiving full-time pay, full benefits, and PTO. The nurse works primarily from home and is dispatched to the field as needed.
You are never alone in this role — our on-call team includes dedicated triage nurses, managers on call, and additional field support to ensure collaboration, backup, and shared responsibility for urgent situations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide after-hours symptom management, triage, and crisis support via phone and in-home visits as needed.
- Assess and reassess patient needs and implement appropriate nursing interventions.
- Execute and update individualized care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team (IDG)
- Communicate significant changes in patient status to physicians and Care Team leadership promptly.
- Educate patients and families on symptom management and end-of-life care
- Provide emotional support and advocacy for families and caregivers
- Document all interactions and visits within the required timeframes (within 48 hours)
- Follow all agency policies, HIPAA regulations, and infection-control standards
- Participate in required meetings and maintain clinical competencies
- Assist with staff training and support when needed
- Other duties as assigned by the Regional Director
