What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Lifeguard position at The Campus?
Summer 2026
Working under the supervision of the Pool Manager, this seasonal position offers the opportunity to apply your lifeguard training in multiple settings. You will be responsible to lifeguard the pool during summer camp, public events and swim lessons. This role requires availability during the week and on weekends.
Please DO NOT apply for this position unless you have a current lifeguard certification OR have registered for a course and can provide the date of your training.
Requirements:
- The candidate must have all required clearances and documentation on file before beginning employment at The Campus.
- The candidate must have working papers if under the age of 18.
- Lifeguard certification from an accredited program should be obtained on your own and is required PRIOR to the start of employment.
- Strong swimming skills, positive communication skills and confidence are essential.
Duties of the Lifeguard include:
- Opening and closing the pool each day per assigned procedures according to scheduled hours.
- Working in cooperation with any other lifeguards assigned to maintain constant pool supervision.
- ACTIVE pool scanning and monitoring during your shift. Lifeguard needs to be ready to jump in and positioned either on stand or patrolling within one foot of the pool edge at all times.
- Change body position every 5 minutes according to safety standards and position yourself so that glare or other obstacles do not limit your view of the pool and pool bottom.
- Refrain from cell phone, smartwatch or other tech devices while actively guarding.
- Educating swimmers on safe behavior and partnering with other staff to achieve this goal.
- Summer Camp: Conduct a basic swim test at the start of each week (and then as needed) for each camper to determine swim competency. Ensure campers are either wearing a band to indicate that they passed or a lifevest.
- Closely monitoring all activities related to the pool area, identifying any safety issues throughout shift.
- Directing swimmers out of water in dangerous conditions such as weather; alert management immediately.
- Maintaining a clean pool environment and reporting any issues to the Pool Area Manager, Events Director or Summer Camp Director.
- Assisting with other summer camp needs as assigned if the pool area is closed.
This Summer position will include Monday through Friday hours at our Summer Camp, public events on weekends and late afternoon weekday swim lessons.
Salary : $14 - $16
