Director of Facilities

The Budd Group is on the verge of signing a contract with Hampton University in Newport News, VA!! We are searching for a Facility Director to oversee the contract. Hampton University is a private, Historically Black University that was founded in 1868. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 2,794 (fall 2022). We will be maintaining about 73 buildings with about 2.6 M sq ft on a 314-acre campus. The Budd Group will manage the Janitorial, Landscape, and Maintenance services for the University with about 140 employees.  We're looking for an individual who has experience in building maintenance and preferably has overseen multiple lines of service. This person will have about 6 direct reports.  The Facility Director is responsible for planning, organizing, developing and directing the overall operations of the physical plant department in accordance with institutional policies and procedures, current federal state and local standards, and guidelines and regulations governing the institution. The Director is responsible for overseeing the three major functions within the physical plant department:  maintenance, custodial, and grounds.  Job Duties: Oversees the physical plant operations and administrative functions associated with the department and each division. Manage the custodial, grounds, and maintenance supervisors as well as the administrative assistant. Is responsible for staff training and professional development while remaining current with all regulations. Oversees and assesses the campus infrastructure. Oversee facility and equipment assessment, including forecast of long-term capital improvements. Oversee small project work as assigned. Maintains personnel records and oversees personnel related matters including annual reviews, disciplinary actions, payroll, and attendance. Consult with and schedule subcontractors on a regular basis to provide services such as preventative maintenance and routine repairs and maintenance. Is responsible for processing of all invoices/expenses related to the physical plant budget, and monitoring the physical plant budget. Remain on-call for after hour emergencies, ensuring that appropriate response is provided. Performs other duties as assigned.   Education, Training, and Minimum # Years Required:  Bachelor’s degree and significant experience with a minimum of five years’ experience as a facilities manager. Must have experience overseeing building maintenance group maintaining and repairing plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and structural systems.  Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Strong customer service orientation and adept in problem-solving and time management. Outstanding organizational and project management skills with an attention to detail.
