Position Summary:
The HR Generalist is the main HR contact for the restaurant management and employees. This role is responsible for both administrative and strategic responsibilities including, employee relations, administering pay, benefits, and leave, and ensuring compliance with company policies and practices. As a member of the HR department the HR Generalist must help ensure the employee experience is successfully delivered within the framework of Gibsons Restaurant Group philosophy and culture, which is based upon the Core Values of Hospitality, Quality, Value and Family.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides first point of contact support for restaurant personnel on all HR functions and related questions.
- Performs tasks required to administer and execute HR programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; productivity, recognition, occupational health and safety; training and development.
- Conduct investigations based on employee complaints, and escalate as appropriate. Provide documentation and propose a course of action.
- Assists with the onboarding of employees, including the new employee orientation to foster positive attitude toward Company goals.
- Provides payroll support and entry duties, ensures status change forms are submitted for changes and terminations.
- Establishes and maintains department and employee records and reports. Participates in administrative staff meetings and attends other meetings, such as training and seminars.
- Ensure legal compliance of HR state and federal regulations and applicable employment laws, and update policies and/or procedures as required
- Keeps records of benefits plans participation such as insurance plan, personnel transactions such as hires, promotions, transfers, performance reviews, disciplinary action and terminations, and employee statistics for government reporting.
- Coordinates management training in interviewing, hiring, terminations, promotions, performance review, safety, and sexual harassment.
- Responds to internal and external inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs.
- Assists with the administration of benefits programs such as life, health, and dental insurance, vacation, sick leave, leave of absence, and employee assistance.
- Investigates accidents and prepares reports for insurance carriers. Direct company contact for all work related injuries from all parties.
- Prepares employee separation notices and related documentation, and conducts exit interviews to determine reasons behind separations.
- Prepares reports and recommends procedures to reduce absenteeism and turnover.
- Delivers presentations to restaurant leaders and employees regarding human resources policies and practices
- Assists with the implementation of new initiatives and perform other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree (B.A) from four-year College or university; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. HR Certification preferred. Spanish proficiency may be required based on location. Travel up to 50% will be required for his role both within the Chicagoland area and to out of state locations.
Skills:
Must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills. Resourceful, problem-solving aptitude and thorough knowledge of HR procedures and policies. Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. G Suite proficiency preferred. Ability to deal effectively with diversity at all organizational levels. Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions. Must possess a commitment to excellence, acute attention to detail, and strong organizational skills.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
