Position Summary
Beasley Forest Products is seeking an experienced and results-driven Sawmill Supervisor to oversee daily sawmill operations at our Hazlehurst, Georgia facility. The Sawmill Supervisor is responsible for leading production teams, ensuring safe and efficient operations, maintaining product quality standards, and achieving production goals. This position plays a critical role in supporting one of the largest hardwood sawmills in the United States and helping deliver high-quality hardwood lumber, crossties, pallet products, crane mats, and industrial wood products to domestic and international customers.
The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a commitment to safety, and extensive knowledge of sawmill manufacturing processes, equipment, and production management.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate all daily sawmill operations to ensure safe, efficient, and productive manufacturing processes.
- Lead, coach, and develop production employees to achieve operational and performance goals.
- Monitor production schedules and ensure customer orders are completed accurately and on time.
- Ensure compliance with company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and environmental standards.
- Conduct regular safety meetings, audits, and inspections to promote a culture of safety.
- Monitor production output, lumber recovery, downtime, and operational efficiencies.
- Coordinate with maintenance personnel to ensure equipment reliability and minimize production interruptions.
- Troubleshoot operational issues and implement corrective actions to improve performance.
- Maintain quality standards in accordance with National Hardwood Lumber Association (NHLA) grading requirements and company specifications.
- Collaborate with Log Yard, Planer Mill, Maintenance, Shipping, and Management teams to optimize production flow.
- Assist with workforce planning, scheduling, attendance management, and employee performance evaluations.
- Review production reports and communicate operational results to management.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, productivity, quality, and cost reduction.
- Maintain housekeeping standards throughout the sawmill operation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum 5 years of sawmill or wood products manufacturing experience.
- Minimum 3 years of supervisory or leadership experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of hardwood lumber manufacturing and sawmill processes.
- Knowledge of log breakdown, lumber recovery, grading, and production optimization.
- Ability to read and interpret production reports and operational metrics.
- Strong leadership, communication, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Working knowledge of OSHA safety standards.
Preferred
- High School Diploma or GED.
- NHLA lumber grading knowledge or certification.
- Experience supervising high-volume hardwood sawmill operations.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and production reporting systems.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts.
- Ability to work in varied weather and temperature conditions.
- Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and access elevated work areas safely.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) includes hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toed footwear.
