Position Summary: The Fabricator is responsible for building, repairing, and modifying metal parts, structures, and equipment used throughout the sawmill. This position supports production by ensuring mill equipment such as conveyors, chutes, guards, and machinery components are safely and efficiently fabricated to meet operational needs. The ideal candidate will have strong welding and fabrication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced industrial environment.
Primary Duties:
- Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and measurements to fabricate or repair mill equipment and components.
- Cut, weld, bend, and assemble metal using MIG, TIG, or stick welding techniques and fabrication tools.
- Fabricate and install new parts such as guards, brackets, platforms, and conveyors for sawmill operations.
- Perform maintenance-related fabrication to support downtime repairs and production improvements.
- Inspect fabricated parts for quality, fit, and compliance with specifications.
- Collaborate with maintenance and production teams to complete projects safely and efficiently.
- Follow all safety procedures and wear required PPE while working in the mill or shop areas.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and organized condition.
- Assist with welding repairs or emergency breakdowns as needed.
