What are the responsibilities and job description for the Groundskeeper & Facilities Lead position at The Batture?
The Batture is a riverfront green space in Uptown New Orleans featuring food vendors, an open lawn, private events, and a growing market and bar concept. We are building a place that feels relaxed, intentional, and visually refined — an escape within the city.
We are seeking a Groundskeeper & Facilities Lead to help shape, maintain, and continuously improve the physical environment of the property.
This is not a traditional groundskeeping or facilities role. It’s a hands-on, multi-disciplinary position for someone who can operate independently, manage responsibilities, and wear many hats — blending maintenance/repairs, management, and problem-solving with a strong sense of ownership.
Role Overview:
You will take responsibility for the overall look, function, and upkeep of the property. This includes grounds maintenance, light construction and repairs, and contributing to the evolving aesthetic of the space.
The ideal candidate is a self-starter who can both execute tasks independently and manage small teams — someone who notices what needs attention without being told, takes initiative, and can manage projects from start to finish.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee cleanliness, organization, and overall visual presentation of the grounds
- Perform small builds and repairs (planters, trellises, lighting adjustments, minor carpentry)
- Monitor and maintain irrigation and drainage systems
- Troubleshoot and resolve maintenance issues across the property
- Support event-related setup needs as they relate to the grounds
- Proactively suggest and implement aesthetic and functional improvements
Ideal Candidate:
- Strong DIY mindset — capable of getting things done independently
- Experience in groundskeeping, property maintenance, or similar work
- Solid technical and hands-on skills (tools, basic systems, repairs)
- Able to manage tasks, prioritize work, and take ownership of outcomes
- Detail-oriented with a strong eye for aesthetics and composition
- Comfortable working outdoors in a dynamic environment
- Reliable, self-directed, and invested in building something long-term
Additional experience in any of the following is a strong plus: plants and plant care, basic electrical, tractors, irrigation systems, lighting, drainage, carpentry, and minor plumbing. Spanish Language skills are a major plus!
Structure & Compensation:
- Full-time position (40 hours per week)
- Flexible scheduling, with some weekend presence preferred
- Competitive hourly pay based on experience
This role offers a high level of autonomy and the opportunity to directly shape the look and feel of a growing riverfront destination.
