Certified Peer Support Worker

Position Summary:

The Certified Peer Support Worker uses a trauma-informed approach to provide comfortable emergency shelter at Barrett House. This role functions as Certified Peer Support Worker but requires the ability to cover shifts at all times and necessitates a quick and adaptive learning approach. Under the direct supervision of the Shelter Lead, the Certified Peer Support Worker supports residents with their daily needs and helps to maintain a clean, safe shelter. The Certified Peer Support Worker works closely with the Shelter Case Manager to identify housing opportunities and resources that are beneficial for our clients. The Certified Peer Support Worker is responsible for upholding shelter policies by ensuring compliance with rules and regulations among clients, up to and including the completion of emergency discharges as needed.

Certified Peer Support Worker Duties:

· Assist residents with accessing medications and ensure residents have access to them per the Medication Handling policy

· Perform security checks, answer phone inquiries, and provide referrals/resources

· Conduct curfew, bed, and chore checks as needed

· Assist in opening and closing the kitchen for meals

· Restock shelter supplies

· Complete intakes and discharges as required

· Promote and encourage safety and clear communication

· Provide exceptional customer service and be responsive to residents needs

· Review and record all pertinent information in the communication log throughout shift

· Enforce shelter rules as necessary

· Provide crisis intervention when needed

· Provide resident transportation as needed

· Record Donations

· Be aware of emergency procedures

Qualifications:

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills

· Ability to work independently and as part of a team

· Strong organizational skills

· Flexibility and willingness to adapt to different roles

· Sensitivity to the needs of vulnerable populations

· Must have excellent computer skills with a proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel

· First Aid and CPR Certifications

· Valid Driver’s License and ability to drive company vehicle

Education:

· High school diploma or equivalent

· Certified Peer Support Worker Certification and/or the ability to obtain certification within six months. To become a CPSW, an individual must be 18 years of age or older, have a valid high school diploma or GED and have been in recovery for an extended period of a minimum (3) or more years, achieving mental health wellness and/or not engaged in substance use.

Pay: $22.00 - $24.00 per hour
