About this job:
Level I engineer role with emphasis on security appliances and software. Ensure that security appliances and software are functioning efficiently and configured according to security best practices. Responsible for identifying and selecting proper software versions for aforementioned security appliances and software to ensure all known vulnerabilities are identified and mitigated within predefined SLA's.
The engineer is also responsible for troubleshooting network communication issues across the organization, including but not limited to, routers, switches, firewalls, Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS), Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) solutions, Anti-malware Software, and Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) systems. They will use available tools and data to investigate security incidents in collaboration with the Senior Network Engineer, Risk Management teams, Managed Security Service Providers (MSSPs) and Security Operations Centers (SOCs).
As a Network Engineer 1 you
will:
- Maintains, installs, and makes modifications to security systems managed and maintained by the Network Team as required, with primary focus and responsibility on security system components at the direction of the Sr. Network Engineer.
- Responsible for installation and maintenance of systems components required for maintaining the security of the bank's network, including but not limited to routers, switches, firewalls, Intrusion Prevention Systems, EDR / Anti-Malware software and SIEM.
- Performs diagnostic and security tests in conjunction with Sr. Network Engineer to isolate and resolve system failures and vulnerabilities, including but not limited to research and regular application of software updates and patches related to security systems.
- Monitors and reviews status of SmartNet coverage for relevant systems managed and maintained by the Network Team and communicates any anomalies and/or pending expirations to the Sr. Network Engineer. Works with appropriate vendors to obtain pricing for SmartNet coverage and communicates same to the Sr. Network Engineer.
- Works with Sr. Network Engineer to review and analyze hardware and software needs and recommends changes and upgrades.
- Maintains knowledge of technology developments with emphasis on security and vulnerabilities through training courses, seminars, and publications.
- Cross train with Sr. Network Engineer to gain basic operational familiarity with selected products within the Network Team portfolio. Provide operational and troubleshooting backup of selected products in Sr. Network Engineer's absence.
Qualifications for Success:
- An associate's degree in a computer related field and three years experience in network maintenance and user technical support or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Must be eager and willing to learn.
