Job Title: Clinical Hotline Supervisor

Location: Remote with occasional in-person meetings

Position Type: Full-Time

Summary Of Position

The Baker Center for Children and Families (also known as Judge Baker Children's Center), promotes the best possible mental health of children and families through the integration of research, intervention, training, and policy.

The Massachusetts Child Abuse Emergency Line (Emergency Line), operated by The Baker Center for Children and Families (The Baker Center), on behalf of the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families (DCF), is a statewide emergency response system ensuring the protection of children from abuse/neglect across the Commonwealth. Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year, the Emergency Line responds to more than 70,000 calls each year.

The Supervisor oversees the Telephone Screeners on-shift to ensure accurate completion of reports related to allegations of child abuse/neglect and missing children in accordance with DCF and Emergency Line policies, procedures, and priorities. Supervisors collaborate with Telephone Screeners in real-time, guiding the fact- gathering and critical thinking process in cases that require a clinical decision and potential intervention. Off shift, Supervisors have additional responsibilities to provide individual supervision to Telephone Screeners, and participate in team meetings and staff trainings.

Schedule For This Full-Time Position Is

  • Sundays 1:00am-9:00am (early Monday morning)
  • Mondays 5:00pm-1:00am
  • Tuesdays OFF
  • Wednesdays 4:00pm-12:00am
  • Thursdays OFF
  • Fridays 4:00pm-12:00am
  • Saturdays (every other) 9:00am-5:00pm

Essential Duties

  • Complete comprehensive 6-week training program for Telephone Screeners and 6-week training program for Supervisors.
  • Manage shift tasks collaboratively with team members to effectively promote quality and efficiency.
  • Review reports of alleged child abuse and/or neglect, reports of missing or absent children, and memos in accordance with DCF and Emergency Line policies, procedures, and priorities.
  • Coordinate emergency intakes and responses with DCF On-Call Supervisors.
  • Maintain a professional, non-judgmental and non-confrontational demeanor with Telephone Screeners and callers.
  • Assist Screeners under stress utilizing crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques when needed.
  • Develop strong working relationships with DCF, and internal and external stakeholders.
  • Deliver training for new Telephone Screeners and Supervisors on shift.
  • Provide individual supervision off-shift for up to five FTE Telephone Screeners according to protocol.
  • Perform quality management activities including, but not limited to, call and report audits for supervisees.
  • Participate in shift-review of certain emergency and non-emergency reports as needed.
  • Participate in departmental trainings and staff meetings as well as organization-wide committees and activities.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to ensure all shifts are covered.
  • This is considered an “essential employee” position and may require work during weather-related and other local, regional or statewide emergencies.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Master’s degree in social work or related field is required.
  • Massachusetts’ Social Work License (any level)

Experience

  • Minimum of two years of experience working in child welfare

Training

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, specifically Word.
  • Must be comfortable learning new technical systems as needed.

Salary: $64,000 - $67,000
