The Axel Group is seeking a Civil Engineer to join our client’s team in an on-site role supporting a variety of civil engineering and land development projects. This is an opportunity for an engineer who enjoys hands-on design work, solving project challenges, and collaborating with clients, project teams, and local agencies to move projects forward.
The position combines technical design with project coordination, regulatory review, and client interaction. You’ll contribute to site layouts, grading, stormwater management, and erosion control while helping navigate municipal requirements and prepare the documentation needed to advance projects through review and approval.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain productive relationships with clients, subcontractors, development attorneys, and other project stakeholders, supporting clear communication throughout each project.
- Review and interpret municipal ordinances, zoning regulations, and applicable engineering requirements, incorporating them into project designs and supporting documents.
- Participate in public and municipal meetings, including Planning Commission, Board of Supervisors, and Zoning Hearing Board meetings, as needed.
- Assist with preparing proposals and planning project scopes, deliverables, and work activities.
- Coordinate with local officials and reviewing agencies, including applicable state, environmental, and transportation agencies, to address requirements and support project approvals.
- Develop civil site designs, including site layout, grading, erosion and sediment control, and stormwater management.
- Organize and prioritize assignments for yourself and others to keep deliverables on track across multiple active projects.
- Prepare technical correspondence, memoranda, and reports, translating engineering information into clear explanations for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Prepare and deliver presentations to communicate project designs, findings, and recommendations.
- Keep department leadership informed of project progress, upcoming deadlines, and issues requiring attention.
- Support business development efforts by identifying opportunities to introduce complementary professional services across disciplines and office locations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- 2 years of land development experience preferred.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or Professional Engineer (PE) licensure highly desirable.
This role offers the opportunity to contribute beyond design production through client communication, municipal coordination, and project planning. If you enjoy turning site challenges into practical solutions and working with a team to bring development projects to life, we’d welcome the opportunity to connect.
