What are the responsibilities and job description for the Refinish Technician position at The Aureus Group?
Job Summary
At The Aureus Group, we're not just painting vehicles—we're Repairing the Repair® Process. Our mission is to revolutionize collision repair through lean principles, waste elimination, meticulous process refinement, and a deep investment in developing our people. If you love solving technical challenges, continuously improving workflows, collaborating without egos, and growing both your craft and leadership skills in a high-accountability, supportive environment, this is where you'll excel.
As a Refinish Technician, you'll deliver flawless, factory-quality finishes efficiently and safely while actively contributing to our lean initiatives. This role goes beyond spraying paint—it's about mastering precision techniques, reducing rework through smart processes, and helping elevate the entire team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform all phases of automotive refinishing, including surface preparation, masking, color matching/mixing, blending, spraying basecoats and clearcoats—strictly following manufacturer guidelines and our lean standards for zero-defect results.
- Execute efficient workflows to maintain shop flow, minimize cycle time, and eliminate waste (e.g., reducing redo rates through proactive problem-solving).
- Collaborate seamlessly with body technicians, estimators, and the team to ensure vehicles move smoothly through the repair process.
- Maintain a pristine, organized paint booth and workspace as part of our commitment to 5S and safety excellence.
- Manage paint material inventory proactively and contribute ideas during kaizen events or process reviews to drive ongoing improvements.
- Uphold strict adherence to safety, environmental, and quality regulations while owning your work from prep to final inspection.
Who We're Looking For (If This Resonates, You'll Thrive Here!):
- 3 years of hands-on experience in automotive painting/refinishing (collision repair preferred).
- Proficiency with modern systems like PPG or similar (waterborne basecoats, clearcoats, etc.)—strong attention to detail and pride in flawless workmanship.
- A team-first mindset: collaborative, ego-free, and focused on collective success.
- Genuine passion for learning and development—eager to master new techniques, grow your career, and develop as a leader in a people-centric culture.
- Ability to maintain high pace without compromising quality, backed by strong work ethic and reliability.
- Reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and ability to meet the physical demands of the role.
- Unwavering commitment to shop safety and personal accountability.
Our Core Values Define Our Culture:
- We are 1 Team – Stronger together; we lift each other up with no drama or silos.
- Own It – Take full responsibility and honor every commitment to the team and customers.
- Never Stop Learning – Turn every job, challenge, and feedback into growth.
- Love What You Do – Your fulfillment and impact are fueled by the effort and care you invest.
- Be Quick, but Don’t Hurry – Prioritize doing it right the first time—quality saves time in the long run.
What We Offer:
- Robust Development – Structured training, mentorship, certifications, and clear career paths to help you reach your full potential (technical mastery to leadership roles).
- Ownership Opportunities – High-performing leaders can earn equity/partnership in the business.
- Top-Tier Benefits – Non-deductible health, vision, and dental insurance (70% company-paid for employee dependents), generous paid time off, company-matched retirement plan, referral bonuses, and bonus opportunities.
- Supportive, Transparent Culture – Open-book management, collaborative lean environment, and relocation assistance for the right candidate.
- Work-Life Integration – Balanced schedules (e.g., Monday–Friday, 8-hour shifts) where high performance meets meaningful impact and personal well-being.
We're proud of the foundation we've built at The Aureus Group (with locations serving the greater Philadelphia area, including Delaware County), but we're accelerating forward.
